Vandring
The figure of Mary itself dates back to 1593 and is attributed to the sculptor Hubert Gerhard. The statue was created for the grave of Duke Wilhelm V and initially adorned the high altar of the Frauenkirche.
The four heroic putti were only added in 1641 and replaced by copies at the end of the 20th century. The originals are in the Munich City Museum.

The mighty New Town Hall on the north side dominates the square
1/ There is a viewing platform in the town hall tower, below which the historic carillon sounds twice a day.
2/ The Old Town Hall closes off Marienplatz to the east, in the middle the Marian column commemorates the end of the Thirty Years' War
3/ Munich residents meet at the Fischbrunnen to make appointments
4/ The Old Peter, the oldest parish church in Munich, is just a stone's throw away and offers a great view of the old town
