Many animals and plants that rely on dead wood are on the Red List of Endangered Species.

Recycling in nature

The abandonment of branches or fallen trees is unfortunately still considered a waste of raw materials or regarded as "neglected".

After a tree is overturned or fell, invisible bacteria as well as algae and fungus dissolve the bark.

Soon after, we can see woodlice, centipedes and spiders sheltering under the bark.

In the dead wood of the rhizomes of oaks lives the larva of the stag beetle.
