The small watercourses make up a lot of the special atmosphere in the old town of Freiburg - many other elements can be found in the same way in other places. It's really fun to follow the progress here again and again.

The Freiburg Bächle ("Bächlein", Bach with the Alemannic diminutive ending -le) are a landmark of the city of Freiburg im Breisgau. Documented since the Middle Ages, the man-made watercourses fed with water from the Dreisam can be found in most of the streets and alleys of the old town. The total length of the Bächle is 15.9 kilometers, of which 6.4 kilometers run underground.
