The landlady Alden Biesen was founded in the 13th century by the German Order of Knights and was the headquarters of the Order's Province between the Meuse and the Rhine. Today, the castle is used as a cultural center of the Flemish community. It organ concerts and operas are organized and there is a permanent exhibition on the Teutonic Knights. The castle also has a reconstructed baroque ornamental garden and a "fructuarium", where old fruit varieties are cultivated. Castle and garden can of course be visited.

The domain itself, the church, the English and French gardens and the tourist reception center can be visited for free. The moated castle with the restored apartment of the grand commander can only be visited with a guide or during a temporary exhibition. Guided tours for individual visitors are regularly organized on Sundays.
