Röthgen Castle, also called Merötgen Castle, gave its name to the Röthgen district of the same name in Eschweiler, North Rhine-Westphalia. The complex, located in Burgstrasse, is a typical Lower Rhine moated castle, the majority of which dates from the early 16th century.

First documented mention in the 14th century.

15th / 16th Century free noble property owned by the knights of Engelsdorf zu Merötgen, today's castle was built.

1691/92 the Lords of Bourscheidt became owners.

18th / 19th Century reconstruction, renovation and partly decay of the castle. The south wing and west wing of the former four-wing complex will be laid down.

In 1944 the war was destroyed.

1969 the north wing was rebuilt.

The exact date of construction of the castle is not historically proven. Files from the 17th century attest to the castle as the ancestral seat of the Knights of Engelsdorf (called Merötgen), who lived there as early as the 13th century, although an Edmund von Röthgen (Edmuntz van me Roitgen) was not mentioned in a document until 1348.
