It’s common knowledge that you can find speedy descents and great panoramas in the Alps. But, did you know that Thuringia is also a real MTB paradise? Between the cities of Saalfeld, Rudolstadt and Bad Blankenburg in south-eastern Thuringia, you’ll find breathtaking scenery, dizzying heights, river valleys, forests and lake landscapes/ The trails take you through dense woodland and almost fjord-like nature along the Saale River. The Thuringia countryside, culture, and endless sky will stay in your memory for many years to come.

Whether you are a professional or beginner, there are many possibilities for mountain bikers in FEEN-Bike-Paradies Saalfeld MTB centre. In this collection, we present six Tours in detail. Ranging in difficulty from easy to challenging, you ride on gravel paths, over roots, and along single trails as you explore the beautiful nature in Thuringian Forest. The Tours are between 30 to 50 kilometres (18.6 to 31 miles) with up to 1,000 metres (3,280 feet) of elevation gain. Your calves will have a good workout in Saalfeld.

Wonderful views over the Saale River, which is dammed in Hohenwarte and Leibis, accompany you on all of the Tours. At 413 kilometres (1,354 feet), the river is the second-longest tributary of the Elbe River, after the Moldau. The Saale winds its way through gently rolling, forested hills. It’s easy to imagine you’re in Canada on this stretch of the Saale; the landscape is very similar.

Highlights include the 482-metre (1,581-feet) Kulm, a hill which is the starting point for a series of adrenaline-packed trails, the Hallelujah Hut with its cosy atmosphere, the zig-zag trail at Heinberg and the Hohenwarte dam. You can relax on the Saale beach in Remschütz or in one of the beautiful restaurants in Saalfeld’s historic half-timbered town centre.

Saalfeld is also famous for its Fairy Grottoes, which were created from a disused mine. The Fairy Grottoes are known as the most colourful in the world thanks to their stalactites. Curious? Then it's time to head off to the beautiful Thuringian countryside in the green heart of Germany! Discover your own personal highlights and enjoy wonderful views from the Saalfeld Trails.
