Here in the north-east of the Saarland, you cycle through romantic forests and pass colorful fields and fragrant meadows. Old tunnels and breathtaking viaducts create excitement on smoothly asphalted railway tracks and charming towns like Sankt Wendel provide cultural highlights.
In the cycling region Sankt Wendeler Land, you will find a 210-mile (340-kilometer) cycle route network, which offers you many varied cycle Tours. In this Collection, we present the five most beautiful day tours of the Sankt Wendeler Land. In addition to the Fritz-Wunderlich cycle path, which takes you from Altenglan to Freisen on an old railway track, we also show you four circuits: the Schaumberg circuit, the Weiselberg cycle path, the Ostertal-Höhen circuit and the Wendelinus cycle path.
All cycle paths are between around 20 and 30 miles (30 and 40 kilometers) long and start either near a railway station or at a car park. From the respective starting points, you cycle through the slightly hilly terrain of the Sankt Wendeler Land and enjoy the proximity to nature and the wonderful views of the scenically varied region. Small villages, courtyards, castles and pretty little towns offer you the opportunity to stop off again and again along the way, so that you can round off your rides with Saarland delicacies.

The slightly more than 30 kilometers long circuit begins at the station in Sankt Wendel and takes you on a varied route through picturesque valleys and charming heights in the Sankt Wendeler Land.From the starting point you cycle in a wide arc towards the west. The bike path takes you along the former railway line from Sankt Wendel to Tholey. To the left and right of the route are small wooded areas and wide fields and meadows, from where you have a wonderful view of the gently undulating landscape. Via Oberthal you reach Tholey, which lies at the foot of the Schaumberg. Here you can take a relaxing break and relax.Freshly fortified, you then roll downhill first into the Alsbach Valley and cross Marpingen. On the other side of the valley, a steep climb awaits you, which brings you to the Weinhausköpfchen. From the top you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Alsbachtal, from which you have just come. At the top you cycle comfortably past woods and fields and then let you roll in a fast descent to the shore of the Blies. Then follow the river to Sankt Wendel, the starting point of the tour.
Not far from the Walhausen station, the nearly 30-kilometer-long cycling tour starts. Alternatively, you can start in Namborn, where there is also a train station. The route takes you through charming countryside and at the foot of the Weiselberg.From the starting point you cycle east through an open field and meadow landscape. You can fully indulge in the beauty of the environment. After you have crossed Asweiler, begins a long climb that brings you through wide meadows and romantic forests to Weiselberg. Here it is worthwhile to stop the bike for a short time and to visit the top of the mountain, from which you have a wonderful view.Then you drive a bit on the Fritz-Wunderlich-Weg and then continue on Grügelborn west. In Hofeld-Mauschbach you can pay a visit to Liebenburg and enjoy from its tower a fascinating panoramic view of the gently rolling countryside with its colorful fields, green meadows and forests. About Namborn the tour then leads you back to the starting point.

The nearly 40-kilometer circuit starts at the train station in Dörrenbach and leads you over the heights of the Sankt Wendeler Land, from which you can enjoy wonderful long-distance views.Just after Dörrenbach you start with the first ascent. Take your time and enjoy the fantastic views over the wide fields and meadows or the relaxing silence in the forest. After the first half of the climb you can take a break at Wendelinushof. Here you have the opportunity to relax or to provide you with provisions in the farm shop. Afterwards it goes back into the forest, where you reach the highest point of the tour. On the following descent you can enjoy fantastic views of the charming landscape of the Saarland.After half the distance and another climb you drive down into the picturesque Ostertal. You follow the river to Osterbrücken and turn east there to tackle the last big climb of the tour. Past wide fields and meadows it goes uphill. You will be enchanted by the wonderful foresight. The following descent will take you through refreshingly cool forest and bring you back to the starting point in Dörrenbach.
At about 40 kilometers, this beautiful cycle tour takes you past the Schaumberg, via Tholey, Sankt Wendel and Theley. You will experience beautiful scenery and beautiful views.Start at the parking lot at the foot of the Schaumberg. If you feel like it, you can make a short detour to the mountain right at the beginning. At 568 meters, the Schaumberg is the highest peak in the Saarland. At the summit, you can enjoy the view from the lookout tower or skywalk and relax. Otherwise, you cycle directly from the parking lot around the Schaumberg around to Tholey and continue over picturesque fields and wide meadows up to the Weinhausköpfchen. The steep climb is followed by a long descent, alternating with vast fields and cool forests.Halfway you reach Sankt Wendel. Here you can take an extended break and fortify yourself in one of the cozy restaurants or cafes. With new strength you then cycle in a big arc back to the starting point. At the station in Altenglan begins the approximately 27-kilometer Fritz-Wunderlich-Radweg, which is named after the singer born in Kusel. On long stretches you cycle on an old railway track on your way to Freisen, which leads you through exciting tunnels and over spectacular viaducts.From the starting point you drive via Rammelsbach to Kusel. From here the bike path runs on the former railway line of the Kusel-Türkismühle line. On the slightly ascending path you cycle through beautiful nature, because to the left and right of the train path cycle path lush shrubs and tall trees grow. In Ruthweiler you can then make a detour to the castle Lichtenberg, which fascinates not only with their old walls, but also scores with the observation tower and the restaurant.Afterwards we continue through the idyllic landscape of Saarland. At Oberkirchen you cross the impressive viaduct that spans the village and the valley and then drive around the picturesque wooded Weiselberg. On the last kilometers of the bike tour you will dive into a wild and romantic forest that will accompany you to the gates of Freising, the destination of the tour.
