In May, when the first strawberries ripen, it's a truly sweet time of year. And none are juicier and fresher than those you pick yourself. Strawberry picking is also a great way to spend some time with the family: Children love being in the outdoors; enjoying the beautiful spring weather while they seek out the best strawberries to pick straight off the stem. And it goes without saying that one or two will end up in their mouths before the basket, but we can forgive them for that. Your collected strawberries can then be processed into a whole host of delicacies: Strawberry cake, strawberry ice cream, strawberry smoothies or just enjoy them whole. And to make sure you get through the winter well, it's always a good idea to make your preserves—just enough to get you through the colder months.
We have put together seven hiking and cycling trips that will take you directly to the most beautiful strawberry fields around Berlin. Here you can pick and collect to your heart's content—as long as your baskets are big enough. To make the excursion into nature particularly relaxing, you can easily reach all trips by S-Bahn or regional train.
Your hike to the strawberry field starts at the train station Oranienburg. In 20-minute intervals, the station is approached by the S-Bahn S1 line. From the train station you walk along the Havel River and past the impressive Oranienburg Castle. You cross the Oranienburger canal and follow the path over open fields to the Oranienburger Beerengarten. Arrived in the Beerengarten, you collect in peace under the warm spring sun your strawberries. Then it goes the same way back to the starting point. A special tip: It is definitely worth a detour to the beautiful castle garden. Thanks to varied playgrounds, the trip is especially worthwhile for families. After your walk, the S1 line will take you back to Berlin.
Directly on the outskirts of Berlin you can indulge in your strawberry cravings in Dahlwitz-Hoppegarten. You take the S5 line every 20 minutes to Hoppegarten S-Bahn station. From there you walk along the racecourse to the Erpetal. Open meadows and quaint woodlands welcome you and you continue to the tiny Dahlwitz. The old houses on the roadside take you on a journey through time. After a short walk through the Schlossgarten Dahlwitz you are already standing at the Beerengarten Dahlwitz-Hoppegarten. Here you can enjoy a piece of cake after your strawberry harvest. Then the tour takes you to the S-Bahn station Birkenstein. There you climb back into the S5 and drive home quietly.

This family-friendly bike tour starts in the tranquil Bernau near Berlin. The S-Bahn line S2 takes you every 20 minutes to the train station Bernau, the starting point of your tour. On a comfortable bike path you cycle to the small village of Börnicke. The historic center with the old manor is always worth a visit. And even if your children do not want to hear anything about school at the weekend, they will find it interesting to visit the school museum. From Börnicke it then continues on wide fields to Elisenau. Here you will find a great self-picking field and a beautiful farm shop. When your baskets are filled with the juicy strawberries, you cycle in peace back to Bernau. From there you take the S2 back to Berlin.
This bike tour starts at the Strausberg Nord S-Bahn station, the last stop of the S5 line. The S-Bahn takes you every 20 minutes from the Berlin Ostbahnhof out into the countryside. Through the picturesque forest and meadow landscape you cycle on good paths to the fruit mill Müller in Wesendahl. The Müller fruit estate is not only worth the strawberry season, because here you can also harvest cherries, plums and apples. After your successful harvest and your visit to the farm shop, you cycle back towards Strausberg. A tip from us: If you are traveling with your children, you should definitely plan a stop at the Kinderbauernhof Roter Hof. From here it is only a short distance to the S-Bahn station Strausberg Nord.
This short hike starts at S-Bahn station Schönfließ. Every 20 minutes stops here the S-Bahn S8. The station is located in the middle of the wide fields. Even from the platform you have a nice view of the wide fields. On a cozy dirt road you walk in the direction of the village Schönfließ. Before the village, turn right and follow the path to Bergfelder Chaussee. Shortly afterwards it goes into the forest of the Gallberg. After a round through the small, quiet forest, you continue to the Beerengarten. Here you can collect a good portion of the juicy strawberries. Then it's off to Schönfließ, where you can enjoy a piece of homemade Pascale cake in Café Casa Pascale. From the S-Bahn station Schönfließ it goes back to your tour with the S8 back home.
This bike tour starts at the S-Bahn station Henningsdorf, which is approached every 20 minutes from the S-Bahn line S25. From the station you cycle out of town. You drive through a small forest, until it goes out to the wide fields of Brandenburg. An excellent bike path runs parallel to the little-used road. The tour is therefore well suited for sporty children. You pass the villages Marwitz and Eichstädt and finally reach the self-picking field Schwanteland. Here is nibbled and picked until the bike bags are full. On the way back it goes through the quiet Krämer forest, where you can still stop in the cozy Waldhaus. Then it goes on forest roads and over wide fields back to the S-Bahn station Henningsdorf. Here the S25 takes you back home. At the weekend you can easily find a place in the S-Bahn for you and your bike. During the week you should better avoid the rush hour, because then it can be tight.
This excursion is especially suitable for families with children. The hike is especially short because you can easily spend a whole day at Karls Erlebnishof.
