The start of the tour is the town of Wittlich near the Moselle valley. The train station is in Wengerohr, about three kilometers east of Wittlich. It starts with the Salmtal with its cozy forest trails. Passing old mills you reach the mighty baroque building of Himmerod Monastery. From now on it goes in stages to the heights of the Eifel. Until Manderscheid, trails alternate with forest trails. A highlight is the winding path section through the Kylltal, which ends at the Heidsmühle (refreshment tip at km 33). Soon you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Manderscheid castles. The following Liesertal with its path of the same name is a focal point for hikers. Therefore, the route runs parallel on the high bank on less crowded paths with a more beautiful view! The finale leads past the three most beautiful Eifel maars down to Daun.

A stage to catch your breath, even if you end up climbing the highest mountain in the Eifel. The Hohe Acht measures 747 meters! As soon as you leave the Maar region, the population density decreases drastically again. You pedal through sleepy villages and idyllic landscapes. Typical Eifel you can always look into the distance between the forest islands. On the Hochkelberg, a path falls short and steep into the depth. Then there was the contrast program: the infamous Nordschleife of the Nürburgring meandered through the mountains at the foot of the Nürburg. Garnished with many trail sections, the route follows the auto race track towards Hohe Acht. Around 200 meters, which are really steep at the end, are up to the summit. And another sixteen feet to the lookout tower. Fortunately, the stage goal only goes downhill.

Final sprint to the Rhine! But please divide your strength, because the almost 70 kilometers are a bit long at the end. To warm up the muscles, the route from Adenau climbs back to the Eifel heights. A long forest path soon leads along the mountain slope. Through the gaps in the forest you can catch a glimpse of the Ahr valley, which initially runs parallel. Interesting: A rugged rock bastion is hidden in the forest on Teufelsley. The climb to the Steinberghaus is the best example that a single trail can be fun uphill! And at the inn there is a well-deserved summit beer with a view (refreshment tip, km 26). Highlight for technicians: two trail descents into the Ahr valley with tight switchbacks in the lower part. The route follows the Ahr to the Rhine, but with a dangle over the Hellenberg near Sinzig.
