On your bike, you can discover the port’s 300-year-old history as you ride through an area equivalent to almost 2,100 football pitches between the Rhine and the Ruhr rivers.

In this Collection, we show you five varied circular routes through Duisburg Port. On the way, you visit interesting landmarks as you ride by the port facilities and basins. You soon realise that Duisburg Port is a very special place.

Goods are transported to Duisburg Port by ship, train, and trucks, which makes the huge port the leading logistics hub in Central Europe. As the endpoint of the New Silk Road, both ships and also trains from Asia call at the port. Each week, more than 40 trains run between Duisburg and various destinations in China. Every year, more than 20,000 ships and 25,000 trains travel to destinations throughout Europe and Asia.

    At the Ruhr in the Kaßlerfeld district, the round tour starts on the Duisburg adventure cycle path. Tram 901, in which you can take your bike with you from 9 a.m., takes you to the Duisburg Albertstrasse stop. This is in the immediate vicinity of the starting point of this tour.To start, you follow the Ruhr towards the west. Shortly before it flows into the Rhine, you turn south and cycle through the wide Rhine meadows. Our tip: Before you turn off, make a short detour to the landmark Rheinorange at the mouth!On the way you enjoy great views of the mighty Rhine and the opposite bank.After a while you leave the banks of the Rhine and roll through the Neuenkamp district to Duisburg city center. At the inner harbor you have the opportunity to take part in a harbor tour.You take a dangle that takes you past historic buildings such as the town hall and the Salvatorkirche, before you get back to the inner harbor, which you then circumnavigate. From the inner harbor you finally drive back to the Ruhr, where you reach the starting point of the tour again.

    The duisport cycle tour officially begins at the Museum of German Inland Navigation in Duisburg Ruhrort. Of course, you can also start the tour anywhere along the route. To get to the starting point, take tram line 901. It will take you to the Duisburg Thyssen Tor 30 stop, which is located directly behind the museum. You can take your bike on the train from 9 a.m. on weekdays and even all day on weekends.At the beginning of the tour, you cycle from the inland navigation museum to the Rhine. Past the spacious Rhine meadows and the railway port, you cross the Friedrich-Ebert-Bridge, which is guarded by impressive bridge towers. On the other side of the Rhine you drive directly on the bank and later through the picturesque Rhine meadows to the south. You can enjoy great views of the mighty river and the opposite bank.At the southern tip of the tour you will reach Krefeld-Uerdingen and the Rheinhafen Krefeld. Here you cross the Rhine again and make your way back. You reach Duisburg-Mündelheim along picturesque fields. Then you will pass the Krupp Mannesmann ironworks and pass the imposing Tiger & Turtle sculpture in Angerhausen.You will then reach the banks of the Rhine again, which you follow northwards. Passing the Südhafen you get to the beautifully designed Rheinpark. From here, the route takes you further into the city center of Duisburg, where you circle the inner harbor.After you have crossed the Ruhr, the Hafen Canal and the Vincke Canal, you will reach the Ruhrort district. From here you roll past the railway port back to the starting point at the inland navigation museum.

    The starting point of the leisurely tour on the Ruhrort adventure cycle path is the so-called thousand-window house in Ruhrorter Straße. You can get here by tram 901. Opposite is the port center of the largest inland port in the world. You can take your bike on the train from 9 a.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends.On completely flat paths you cycle to the start of the Vincke Canal and follow it to the west. After a few hundred meters you will reach the Schifferbörse, where you can enjoy the characteristic harbor atmosphere. Here you also have the opportunity to take part in a harbor tour of the Ruhrort passenger ship.Then you follow the canal further north and soon reach the Mühlenweide, a large festival meadow located directly on the Rhine. In the summer months, a cozy beer garden invites you to linger. Let your eyes wander and discover the harbor art world "Echo des Poseidon" by the artist Markus Lüpertz on the opposite bank. This gift on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the port welcomes the skippers at the confluence of the Rhine and Ruhr rivers as a landmark.From here you cross the railway port and cycle a small arch towards the Museum of German Inland Navigation before you reach the shore of the railway port again.After you have passed the harbor basin, you roll through the center of Ruhrort to the so-called shipyard harbor.     The round tour starts in Duisburg-Essenberg directly on the Rhine. Bus lines 912, 922, 923 and 926 take you to the Essenberg Kaiserstraße stop, which is only a few meters away from the starting point. You can take your bike on the bus from 9 a.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends.Right at the beginning you turn your back on the Rhine and cycle past the Essenberg lake. You pass fields and meadows as well as the nature reserve Essenberger Bruch before you dive into the district of Oestrum.From here it continues to the recreation area Töppersee, where you can cycle along the shore through beautiful nature and take a detour to the neighboring water ski facility. There you will also find cozy places to take a break. Finally, you leave the water again, cross the Rumeln district and drive past fields to the Kruppsee.A little later you will reach the picturesque Rhine meadows, including the nature reserve, before you reach the vibrant logistic real estate logport I. Coal and steel left - duisport came. A new era began in Duisburg in 1998 with the 265 hectares, i.e. around 371 football fields, of the disused Krupp steelworks in Duisburg-Rheinhausen. Through the districts of Huckingen and Angerhausen you can reach the banks of the Rhine.Along the banks of the Rhine you will head north, where you will end up in the Rheinpark. Although this is currently being redesigned, it is still passable and offers exciting insights into the development of the area. The best opportunity to take a long break and stop off comfortably. The bridge of solidarity is already in sight and heralds the destination of the journey.
