Mixed-terrain rides between 30 and 50km exploring the byways, bridleways and quiet lanes around Sheffield and the edge of the Peak.
Not all of the surfaces are great and a few are almost unridable in places - but never for very long. A bit of hike-a-bike is all part of the fun anyway.

    Bike Touring Highlight (Segment)

A little bit of wilderness close to the city!

This section of the Trans Pennine Trail is a wide, groomed, gravel path through the woodland linking Wortley to Oughtibridge. It's undulating but there aren't any very steep climbs.

It's less than 6 miles (10 km) out of Sheffield city centre but it feels like you could be in the middle of nowhere, even though the busy A6102 runs just to the west of it.

  • Moss Road Bridleway

    Bike Touring Highlight (Segment)

Moss Road Bridleway is a wide track that crosses Totley Moor and is a good off-road route out into the Peak District from Sheffield, with great veiws of the city behind as you climb.
It climbs steeply up from Totley Bents, starting out as a tarmac road before turning into a wide, gravelly, then rocky, track. The steepest section is the roughest (ok for MTBs but you might have to push a bit if you're on a gravel bike) but once on the moor it flattens out to a sandy, rutted track.
It roughly follows the line of Totley Railway tunnel and the tunnel shaft can be seen up on the hill to the north. The track eventally joins up to Stony Ridge Road / Owler Bar Road at the edge of the National Trust Longshaw estate.

  • Riverside Path

    Bike Touring Highlight (Segment)

An easy and traffic-free route from Oughtibridge to Hillsborough that provides a welcome alternative to dodging the tram tracks. The route cuts through Beeley Woods alongside the river, so it's flat and very well surfaced. Great for all kinds of bikes and for young children, too. Can get busy at weekends.
