You stand by a gushing waterfall on a hot day, the mist cooling your face; You contemplate life overlooking the calm waters of a lake; You lose yourself in nature hiking along a river. You can experience all this and more on the WasserWeltenStieg Trail through the Black Forest in Germany.

In this Collection, we present the 70-mile (110-km) route from Triberg in Germany to Neuhausen in Switzerland in 6 stages. On the way, you’ll explore the south of the Black Forest and the Randen plateau, as well as countless waterfalls, rivers, and lakes. Opening in July 2020, this trail is brand new so it offers something even for seasoned Black Forest hikers.

The WasserWeltenSteig trail begins at the Triberg waterfalls, one of the highest waterfalls in Germany. From here, you hike over gentle ridges, enjoy wonderful views of the Black Forest, run along the watershed between the Rhine and Danube and get to know the water-dominated landscape in the Southern Black Forest Nature Park. Beautiful forest trails, the exciting Gauchach Gorge, idyllic lakes, and, of course, the magnificent Black Forest await. Dotted along the trail, you will find observation towers that afford spectacular views all the way from the Alps to the Swabian Jura. The fifth stage takes you into Switzerland where you hike over the Randen high plateau before reaching Neuhausen, a small town in Schaffhausen. On stage 6, you reach the impressive Rhine Falls, the crowning glory of the WasserWeltenSteig Trail. This huge waterfall is the biggest in Europe and the perfect end to your adventure.

You can easily reach the starting point in Triberg by train and Neuhausen am Rheinfall also has good train connections to return home after your hike. Each stage destination offers accommodation, but it’s worth booking in advance as this region is very popular with hikers. You’ll find lots of restaurants en route where you can try out the local cuisine. Don’t forget to pack your bathing suit as you can take a dip in Lake Kirnberg and relax on the beach on stage 3.

You will be amazed by the water world between Triberg and Neuhausen. We wish you a happy adventure from the Black Forest to Switzerland and from waterfall to waterfall!

In summer, keep your eyes peeled for ripe blueberries growing along the way.You hike past rustic Black Forest farms, always slightly uphill. There you are at an important point on the watershed between Wilder Gutach / Elz and the Breg - i.e. between the Rhine and Danube. You continue to hike on the heights and soon immerse yourself fully in the dense Black Forest. You enjoy every step you take through the idyll and seclusion of this beautiful area and inhale the fresh forest air. Then the path leads you down to the striking Linach Dam. On the third stage of the WasserWeltenSteig you can take it easy. On the twelve-kilometer route, only an ascent awaits you, the rest of the way is largely flat. But don't worry: the earlier you arrive in Unterbränd, the more time you have to splash around in Lake Kirnberg. You start in Hammereisenbach. Incidentally, the name of the city is no coincidence: Hammereisenbach was a Fürstenberg town where a hammer mill had been operated since the 16th century. At the beginning you follow the bike and hiking path in the Bregtal and come past the Fischerhof and the Krumpenhof. The path then branches off to the left at the level of the fisherman's saw. You leave the wide valley and hike in the narrow forest gorge of the Wilddobel uphill to the forested plateau around Mistelbrunn. You have now completed the challenging part of the hike. At the top, you continue relaxed through the beautiful forest. Enjoy the tranquility that surrounds you and the cool forest air, which is particularly pleasant on a hot summer day.You only leave the dense forest again in Unterbränd, your today's destination. The rest of the day you can relax on the banks of Lake Kirnberg and refresh yourself in the clear water. If you have a tent with you, you can camp right on the lake. In the village you will also find other accommodations.

On stage 4 of the WasserWeltenSteig you can look forward to exciting gorge hiking. You walk over bridges, footbridges and stairs through the charming Gauchach Gorge - a wonderful section of the path. The destination of the almost 22 km long hike is Achdorf. You start your hiking day in Unterbränd. You hike a little bit uphill before you meet the upper reaches of the Gauchach. From now on you follow the stream up to its confluence with the Wutach. At first the landscape is still gentle and the Gauchach flows happily. Gradually the landscape to the left and right of the bank becomes more rugged and the river wilder - welcome to the Gauchach Gorge! The gorge is the little sister of the well-known Wutach Gorge. It is a little less visited, but at least as beautiful. The narrow path leads you over footbridges and stairs through the wild and romantic valley that the brook has washed into the limestone rock. At the Canadian jetty you will meet the Wutach Gorge. You hike the last part of your today's stage along the Wutach to Achdorf. At the Landgasthaus Scheffellinde you can enjoy the hearty Baden cuisine at the end of the day and rent a room in the guest house.

On the fifth stage of the WasserWeltenSteig, two challenging climbs await you. But: If you hike high, you also enjoy a wonderful view. The 25-kilometer route to Siblinger Randenhaus begins in Achdorf. On the way you cross the border and hike through Switzerland on the second half of the route.Right at the beginning you get your circulation going. You leave Achdorf and hike up the first five kilometers. The Schleifenbach waterfalls offer you a welcome cool down on hot summer days. Once you have reached the Buchberg summit, you will be rewarded with a fantastic panorama. You deserve a rest here. In good weather you can see the Alps on the horizon. The path now leads you downhill again to the saddle of the Ottilienhöhe. Do you already see the column of smoke on the Sauschwänzlebahn? The steam and diesel locomotives overcome the 25 kilometers and 231 meters of altitude between Blumberg-Zollhaus and Weizen by means of four bridges, six tunnels and several hairpin bends - just as curly as a swarm. On your way you cross the route several times, so you have a very good chance of seeing the train puffing up the mountain. Then the next meters of altitude lie in front of you: You cover the last kilometers before the border and continue to hike up to the edge. Once you have mastered the climb to the ridge, another fantastic panorama awaits you. You continue to walk on the high plateau, cross the border and reach the Hage tower. The view from the 40 meter high tower is of course even better. For the next few kilometers, the path takes you on a relaxed route across flowery meadows and through shady forests. Keep your eyes peeled for the various wild orchids that bloom along the way. Soon you will have reached today's stage goal, the Siblinger Randenhaus.

The end of the six-day WasserWeltenSteig couldn't be more fitting. You start at the Siblinger Randenhaus and hike gently down the mountain range. You walk through the shady high forest and past lush meadows. In the Eschheimertal, the geographic center of the canton of Schaffhausen, you can fortify yourself in a local restaurant. You will soon be standing in front of the Beringer Edge Tower. It is worth climbing the 137 steps: the viewing platform offers you a wonderful panoramic view - from the Alps, Lake Constance, the Black Forest and the Swabian Jura. With these great impressions you tackle the last part of the long-distance hiking trail. The path continues downhill until you reach downtown Neuhausen am Rheinfall. You walk past the train station and can soon hear the murmur of the largest waterfall in Europe. The Rhine Falls are the perfect end to the 109 km WasserWeltenSteig, which you have already started at a waterfall. Let the violence of the water work on you before you walk back to the train station and start your journey home or end the day in Neuhausen. If you have parked your car at the starting point in Triberg, you can take the S-Bahn to Schaffhausen, then Kreuzlingen and finally Constance.
