Belluno – Traumtouren in den südlichen Ausläufern der Dolomiten

Road Cycling Collection by TOUR Magazin

Das Valbelluna markiert die Grenze zwischen Venetien und dem Friaul. Eine Alpenregion mit rauem Charme und unentdeckten Pässen.

GPS-Daten gibt's hier, die ganze Geschichte in TOUR 5/2020.

A narrow, steep valley like the Val del Mis is typical of the region. The trip through this gorge marks the start of two serious passes in the southern Dolomites: the 1,299-meter Forcella Aurine and the 1,605-meter Passo Duran.Except for the Val di Zoldo between Dont and Longarone, the journey runs on hardly to moderately busy roads. You have to expect bad road surfaces in Val del Mis, especially in the short rock tunnels. If you want to shorten the lap a bit, you can skip the Forcella Aurine - instead you drive at km 32 from Tiser directly via the lower Forcella Franche to Agordo. The following Passo Duran is a hard chunk with a thousand meters of altitude and 15 percent ramps, but also with wonderful views of the Dolomites.

From Lago di Santa Croce it is short and steep up to the Alpago plateau. Behind the small Passo Crosetta, the street suddenly falls into the Po Valley - in the distance you can see the domes and towers of Venice. The streets through the villages to Aviano are not easy to find without a GPS device. The climb to Piancavallo is pleasant, the ski resort is a bleak ghost village even in summer.
The view and the subsequent descent to the Barcis reservoir are all the more beautiful.
Tip: If you turn right around the lake, you get spectacular views, especially from the dam. The trip along the Cellina River leads to the Vajont Reservoir, where a chapel commemorates the 2,000 victims of a 1963 mountain slide that washed a tidal wave into the valley that completely destroyed several places.

The Passo San Boldo is one of the Alpine roads that you must have driven once because of the unique route with five winding tunnels on the south side.Hardly anyone knows the Passo Praderadego, which crosses the same mountain range parallel to the San Boldo. It is 200 meters higher and heavier; A little single-lane street with up to 18 percent steep ramps, and a short gravel passage is strewn uphill. The following San Boldo is then a pleasure ride. Tip for the first half of the round: a visit to the bicycle museum in Cesiomaggiore at km 30.

The route largely follows the penultimate stage of the 2019 Giro, which also started in Feltre. On quiet side streets you can curl up for the first few kilometers in the direction of Valsugana, before the first climb over the rather unknown high road to Cima Campo begins in Arsiè, which lacks a defined pass height. You will reach a height of around 1,400 meters near the huge war forts of Forte Leone. The descent leads down to the scenic pastures to Castello Tesino. The mountain village of Lamon is winding and sunbathing on a terrace above the Cismon valley. From there you can already see the next climb to Passo Croce d’Aune, which is just opposite. At the top of the pass, a monument commemorates Tullio Campagnolo. According to history, the founder of the famous manufacturer of bicycle components on this mountain came up with the idea of a quick release. The Giro stage 2019 ended 250 meters higher on Monte Avena, to whose ski area a ring road leads from Croce d’Aune: plus 250 meters.
