On the 100 Castles Route to the treasures of the Münsterland

Bike Touring Collection by Münsterland

Fairytale moated castles with extensive parks, magnificent baroque buildings and imposing sandstone buildings with lovingly designed palace gardens are among the treasures of the Münsterland region that await you on the 100 Castles Route. Over 600 miles (960 kilometers), the tour takes you through the picturesque park landscape of the Münsterland, past its characteristic green meadows, pastures, wall hedges and woodland.

In this collection we show you the complete 100 Castles Route, which is divided into four circuits: the West, North, East and South Course. The best place to start the west course is Coesfeld, which can be easily reached by train. The other three loops all start at the main station in Münster. You can also combine the four loops, because they overlap or there is a connecting route between them, which we also present here.

Each of the loops has beautiful scenery and very special Münsterland treasures in store for you. On the five-stage west course, for example, you will pass Anholt moated castle and Raesfeld castle. On the north course you cycle on a total of six stages to the hilly Tecklenburger Land and discover, among other things, Steinfurt Castle and Bentheim Castle. The four-stage east course with the majestic castles of Loburg and Harkotten offers unforgettable impressions. South of Münster you will be enchanted by Westerwinkel Castle and Nordkirchen Castle, among others, on the four-stage southern course.

Regardless of which of the circuits you choose, you will find accommodation, restaurants, cafés and often train stations along the route and at the stage finishes if you want to shorten the tour or only ride certain sections. Above all, there are plenty of castles and palaces to discover along the way. So keep your eyes open and let the treasures of the Münsterland region captivate you!
