On the Donau-Bodensee-Radweg you cycle from north to south through the heart of Upper Swabia. From the Danube you cycle through the lovely hilly landscape of the Alpine foothills. Picturesque fruit and hop gardens line the last part of the tour to Lake Constance with its unique alpine panorama..

The 97 miles(156 kilometers) long Donau-Bodensee cycle path connects the popular Danube cycle path with the beautiful Lake Constance cycle path. The tour, which has been awarded three stars by the ADFC, can be completed in four stages. The starting point is in Ulm, where you can travel comfortably by long-distance and regional trains. In Kressbronn, the destination of the long-distance cycle path, you also have access to public transport and can depart either by train or boat across Lake Constance.

On the varied cycle tour from the Danube to Lake Constance you will not only experience beautiful landscapes, but also enjoy great highlights. Along the way, you can expect numerous bathing lakes where you can refresh yourself on hot days, cozy health resorts with relaxing thermal baths and some of the impressive buildings of the Upper Swabian Baroque Road. Your experience on the Donau-Bodensee cycle path is rounded off by the rustic accommodation and refreshment facilities along the route, where you will be spoiled with Swabian cuisine.

    The first stage of the Danube-Bodensee cycle path begins in Ulm at the main train station, which you can easily reach by long-distance and regional trains. Of course you can also travel via the Danube Cycle Path. You can find all stages of the Danube Cycle Path here: you start cycling, it's worth a detour to Ulm Minster, which has the world's tallest church tower, and the romantic fishing district.Then you start the bike tour that leads you out of the city along the Danube. You follow the river bank to just behind Donaustetten and then cycle through colorful fields to Laupheim. Here you have completed about half of the stage and can take a well-deserved lunch break.With new strength you drive past the Laupheimer Badesee and then follow the Riß through the beautiful landscape to the stage destination Biberach an der Riß.

    At the start of the second stage you leave Biberach to the southeast and cycle to Ummendorf, where you will find a great swimming lake and a romantic natural lake, both of which are ideal for a first break.Rested, you will then continue your journey, which will soon have a steep climb ready for you.     Behind Bad Waldsee you dive directly into a lovely hilly landscape. You cycle past green meadows, lush pastures and colorful fields. On the way you can enjoy unique views of the beautiful landscape, which is adorned here and there by small villages.A climb through a shady forest finally takes you up to Wolfegg, where you can take a leisurely lunch break. Freshly strengthened, we continue through fragrant meadows and romantic forest to Kißlegg. Here you can admire impressive historical buildings while strolling.Afterwards you drive through the rural idyll of the Allgäu, which always enchants you with wonderful views and grazing cattle grazing happily on the roadside. A rapid descent takes you towards the valley of the Lower Argen towards the end of the stage. After a short, crisp ascent, you will reach the stage destination Wangen im Allgäu.

    As on the previous day, you cycle through the beautiful, hilly landscape of the Allgäu at the beginning of the last stage of the Danube-Lake Constance cycle path. Your path is lined with wide meadows and lush pastures. Small pieces of forest provide refreshing variety on the way with shady trees.If you want to take a lunch break, you can stop off in Neukirch halfway or get supplies in the village shop. A short descent follows into the valley of the Argen. A counter climb takes you to the Degersee, where you can cool off in the lido.From here it is always slightly downhill. At Schleinsee you roll towards Lake Constance. You can see it from a distance. Through picturesque vineyards and past idyllic orchards you finally whiz down to Kressbronn, where the varied bike tour ends on the shores of Lake Constance.After reviewing the tour while looking over the large lake, you can start your journey home from Kressbronn by train or boat.
