Just get out there; away from the stress of everyday life; out of your own four walls and out of the city. Pack essentials in some bags, strap them to your bike and go. A small bikepacking adventure doesn't require much planning. All you need is an idea of where you want to go. That's exactly what we give you in this Collection. The six Tours on the doorstep of Nuremberg are ideal for your very own adventure, whether you want to leave for a day, one night, or several days.
The basis of this ‘modular adventure’ are the triangular cities of Nuremberg, Forchheim, and Pegnitz. The excellent rail links between the three cities open up great possibilities for adventure. You can take the train from Nuremberg to Forchheim or Pegnitz in 30 to 40 minutes. From here, you can follow our ‘Franconian Switzerland’ bikepacking route for one to three stages depending on your fitness level and mood. If you want to be on the road a little longer then start in Forchheim and add the ‘Pegnitztal’ route which takes you to Nuremberg. Or you can start directly in Nuremberg as the ‘Pegnitztal’ bikepacking route is a circular route or a one or two-day one-way Tour between Nuremberg and Pegnitz. How you ride is entirely up to you!
Whatever you decide, a small or big adventure in beautiful nature is guaranteed. All routes are mostly off-road on quiet field and forest paths with plenty of fun flowing trails. The Pegnitz Valley and Franconian Switzerland are two real pearls in terms of landscape. Idyllic floodplains, great views and impressive rock formations will amaze you again and again. If you plan your adventure with an overnight stay, you can spend time up close with this beautiful nature.
At the end of most of the stages, you find a campsite where you can sleep peacefully surrounded by close nature and awaken to the sound of a river and birdsong. Alternatively, you can find accommodation with a roof over your head nearby if you prefer a more comfortable stay. Of course, the culinary delights along the way should not go unmentioned. Franconian Switzerland has wonderful home-cooked cuisine and rustic beer gardens.
Now it's down to you. Are you ‘Ready for Adventure?’ It doesn't matter whether you decide to spend just one or several days on the road. The important thing is that you simply set off and escape the daily routine. Fresh and full of new energy, you can then look at life with a new perspective.
Your adventure finally begins! The first stage leads you out of the big city and immerses you in the idyllic nature of Middle Franconia. And right from the start it shows what it has to offer. You drive along the Pegnitz along the most beautiful nature trails that Nuremberg has to offer. First you drive through urban green areas, later on narrow trails that give you flowing driving pleasure. Past the Nuremberg Zoo you leave the city behind.Shortly thereafter follows an endless single trail on which you can no longer get out of the flow. Over more than eleven kilometers you iron here over small paths, roots and stones. Only crossing the motorway briefly reminds you that you are in Germany and not somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Take a deep breath - then the next trail is waiting for you. Along a small stream, your driving skills are in demand here and there. Time for a refreshment? After almost half of your day's stage you will pass Diepersdorf. There are various supermarkets, butchers and bakers and therefore all kinds of opportunities to replenish your stores. And it goes on! Past the Moritzberg, the second part of the day begins with a short but crisp descent with a lot of fun and lots of driving fun. Then you finally have time to roll through the forest in a relaxed manner. Your way winds past the Nonnenberg on various forest roads and through small typical Middle Franconian villages. In the further course it gets a little steeper. You are now collecting the last meters of altitude of the day - and that is a few again. But where it goes uphill, it also goes downhill at some point. In addition, you ride on really nice trails again, which makes even the climbs pleasant. The Arzberg tower finally shows you that you have reached the top. Up to today's stage goal it is now only downhill. So look forward to flowing trail descents, always keeping an eye on the daily goal. Before you take care of your night's sleep, the Happurger Baggersee offers the ideal opportunity to cool off. On the way to your night quarters you can then quickly get your dinner in Hohenstadt and then make yourself really comfortable at the campsite "Pegnitz-Camping" right on the river.
After you have packed your night camp and stowed it on the bike, the adventure can continue. If your stomach is growling and you have nothing left of the sacrament, you can either drive back to Hohenstadt or you can set off straight ahead. There are two bakers there and with the first seven kilometers in your legs you have earned an extra chocolate croissant. On the way you also collect the first meters of altitude and look forward to the descent on a really nice trail along the Pegnitz. With new energy you continue to follow the river Pegnitz. You can digest breakfast on smooth gravel paths and enjoy the beautiful view of the river again and again. The undulating terrain ensures a varied and relaxed ride. Behind the small town of Fischstein you drive over a rustic metal bridge directly into the large Veldenstein forest. The forest is part of the Franconian Switzerland – Veldensteiner Forest Nature Park and is really idyllic. You should take a break at the latest at the large perforated stone. The striking rock formation is really impressive and a great backdrop for a rest - and for a photo. Rested, it continues. In the meantime, you have parted from the course of the Pegnitz and continue to drive through the Veldenstein Forest until you leave the forest behind and reach one of the most beautiful natural stages in the whole of Franconia: The Klumpertal embraces you with small ponds, beautiful rock faces, varied paths and so many imposing Look that you don't need to pack the camera in between. The route remains promising shortly before the day's destination. On the Pottensteiner Himmelsleiter tower you can enjoy a unique view of Franconia 26 meters above the ground before the last kilometers of the day are waiting for you. In Pottenstein there is the opportunity to do all the errands for the evening and then check in at the Bärenschlucht campsite. If you would rather let yourself be catered for after this eventful and exhausting day in the saddle, this is also possible here.

The first climb leads gently upwards and is only about a kilometer long. On the plateau you drive around the Rodenstein. The striking rock peak is around 100 meters higher, but also looks impressive from a distance. Then it goes uphill. You climb up towards Reisberg. You also skilfully drive around its summit and on a really beautiful forest path with the best view. The following descent spits you out directly in Hagenbach. The way down to the valley is well developed and you can just let it go. There you can finally take a short break and let your feet dangle in the Trubach. It is even more relaxed if you get a few treats from the nearby bakery beforehand. In the meantime you have already managed more than half of today's kilometers, but not yet half of the vertical meters! That is about to change soon and that's why it is really steep when you leave the neighboring town of Pretzfeld. Next stop: the Dietrichstein castle ruins and the associated climb - the penultimate of the day. As a reward, the flowing descent to Ebermannstadt beckons. There is also the promised reunion with the Wiesent. You can also stock up on provisions here and then find a cozy place for your tent or use one of the overnight accommodation options on site. If you are traveling with several people, the scout house on nearby Lindersberg could also be an option, but it is only rented to groups.
This tour takes you towards the secret capital of Franconian Switzerland: Pottenstein. You follow the course of the Wiesent over an unbeatably beautiful, varied panorama route. From cycle paths to gravel roads to really flowing trails, everything is included in this section. And if you feel like it, you can even cool off in the river. The striking rock formations of Franconian Switzerland also invite you to take short breaks - to marvel and take pictures. One or the other restaurant along the route also contributes to a rather low average speed.Shortly behind the small hamlet of Doos, which you can only see from the opposite side of the river, you then turn eastwards from the Wiesent - but only to join the Ailsbach a few kilometers away. On the way you can expect a nice good mix of trails and forest trails. The route remains "lively": The Ailsbach is followed by the Püttlach, which accompanies you for the rest of the route along a beautiful trail to the stage goal. At the Bärenschlucht camping site in the immediate vicinity of Pottenstein you can set up your overnight camp today.
