Lush river meadows, dramatic rocky outcrops, idyllic orchards and wide hills - on its journey through the Bavarian Jura and along the mountainous foothills of the Bavarian Forest, the Danube has undoubtedly created a fantastic landscape. Right through this countryside, always along the river, the Danube Panorama Trail takes you from Neustadt an der Donau to the three-river city of Passau on the German-Austrian border. In addition to magnificent natural views, lively towns and idyllic villages await you as you go, which deliver a beautiful insight into the culture and tradition of Eastern Bavaria. Between secluded sections through forests and scenic paths on the Danube dam you will visit centuries-old monasteries, stroll through medieval alleyways and stand in ruined castles.
In 10 daily stages, the Danube Panorama Trail accompanies the majestic river on its way through Eastern Bavaria to Passau. Thanks to excellently developed and signposted hiking trails, the hike is convincing at any time of year - in spring you'll hike over fragrant flower meadows, while pebble beaches lure you to a bath in the Danube in the summer. In autumn, you'll admire the colorful foliage of the trees and in winter you'll hike through a quiet, sleeping landscape. The hiking trail is also well equipped with excellent infrastructure: The path and the individual stages can be easily reached by bus and train and many stages can even be combined with a boat trip. On your hikes, friendly hosts in breweries and restaurants will take care of your physical well-being and spoil you with hearty Bavarian cuisine. In the stage destinations at the end of the individual hikes, you can always choose from a wide range of accommodation — from simple youth hostels to elegant hotels.
