The Grossarl Valley, with its national park community Hüttschlag and its European village Großarl, deserves the name "Valley of the Alps". The valley is a unique place in the Salzburg region. Close to the 40 alpine huts, you will find 248 miles (400 kilometers) of marked hiking trails and 87 miles (140 kilometers) of signposted mountain bike trails, not forgetting many delicious regional foods along the way.
Our seven hikes in the Valley of the alps will spoil you with regional delicacies, as well as with breathtaking panoramas and unforgettably beautiful nature. Here, you will find the right hike for every level of fitness - even your children can take part in some hikes in their pram.
Start of the tour is at the parking lot Grund in Ellmautal, a side valley of the Grossarl Valley. At the beginning you walk through the forest, then across alpine meadows to the Ellmaualm, which lies at 1,794 meters altitude. Arrived on the Ellmaualm await you a wonderful panoramic view and homemade delicacies. For children there is a small but nice playground. Strengthened then it continues on alpine meadows on the ridge, then you walk along the ridge to Gründegg at 2,168 meters. From here you have a fantastic view and if you feel like it, you can also make a detour to the beautiful Trögseen.After enjoying the panoramic view to the fullest, you hike over the ridge on the "Ellmautal-Höhenweg" and then descend to Loosbühelalm. The Loosbühelalm is known for its goat cheese, but there are also products from Kuhmlich. Here, in addition to the traditional snack with home-made delicacies, there are also hot dishes. Children are especially happy at the great playground of the Loosbühelalm on the way. Then you either descend via Forstweg or via the short cuts through the forest to the parking lot reason, the starting point of this tour.
The starting point of the tour is at the Sonneggbrücke at the parking lot. From here you climb the forest path or the short cuts through the forest up to the Unterwandalm at 1,600 meters altitude. Here you can enjoy a delicious snack while the kids are having fun on the playground or petting animals.Strengthened, it continues at the same height to the Karseggalm at 1,603 meters. The Karseggalm is probably the most rustic and oldest alpine hut in the Grossarl Valley. Another special feature is the open fireplace in the middle of the Karseggalm. Homemade delicacies will not be missed on this mountain pasture.From the pasture you climb over the trail to the Breitenebenalm, which is located at 1,420 meters altitude. This alpine hut is known for its desserts such as Buchteln or Apfelstrudel. Here children can have fun in the large playground or feed the petting animals. Then you descend to the starting point of the tour.

On this hike, you have the choice whether you want to hike up to the Aualm at an altitude of 1,795 meters or you would rather drive up by car. In any case, wait on the alpine hut already the dairy women with homemade delicacies on you.From here you climb the trail over the Liechtensteinkopf and the Wetterkreuz at Aukopf to the Schuhflicker. In the last piece of the 2,214-meter-high Schuhflicker vertigo and sure-footedness are required. From the top of the Schuhflicker you have a nice view of the Schuhflickersee. After enjoying the view, we continue to the said lake, which lies like a blue pearl in the middle of the rugged mountains. To get to the Bichlalm, there are several possibilities. The easiest way is to start above the Hotel Lammwirt in Ellmautal. Here it goes on the forest road through the forest to Bichlalm at 1,731 meters altitude. The sportier variant goes from the Finsterwald farm over the ladder to the Bichlalm. This path is relatively steep through the forest, until you meet again on the forest road.Arrived at the Bichlalm you will be spoiled with delicacies from our own production and can enjoy the fantastic view of the Grossarl Valley. Freshly strengthened, you then make yourself on the descent. Here again you have the opportunity to either hike the comfortable forest path or take the more adventurous sky ladder through the forest.
Comfortable you drive with the gondola on the panorama plateau. From the mountain station of the Panoramabahn Großarltal at an altitude of 1,840 meters, it goes uphill on the gravel road. You walk past the Naturplatzl to the 2,027 meter high Kreuzkogel. Arriving at the summit of the Kreuzkogel, you can expect a magnificent view of the Grossarl and the Gastein valley. Below the Kreuzkogel is the Skialm, where you will be treated to local delicacies. Back it goes the same way.You can also do this walk with the stroller. A minimum of condition and a roadworthy buggy are necessary.
This hike begins at the parking lot in the valley of Hüttschlag. From here, the path leads past a game reserve and on to the Ötzlsee. Then it goes on a natural trail over hill and dale in the idyllic Schödertal to Schödersee, which is located at 1,440 meters. This periodic mountain lake fills only during snowmelt or after heavy rains. From the starting point to Schödersee, the "Elementary Nature Trail" leads you to around 50 interesting information boards. Here you can find out about stories, minerals, plants and animals of the Schödertal.After you have enjoyed the unique nature and the unforgettable mountain panorama at Schödersee, it's the same way back to the starting point.
The start of this hike is the parking lot in the valley of Hüttschlag. At the beginning you walk past the Talmuesum and out of the valley to the old Haussteingut. From here we continue through the forest. You have the choice whether you want to hike on the forest road or over the short cuts to the Hirschgrubenalm at 1,564 meters. On the Hischgrubenalm you have the first opportunity to strengthen yourself with products from our own production.Continue on a mountain trail to the Aschlreitalm, which lies at 1,785 meters. Here you have the second opportunity to enjoy homemade specialties. Strengthened then it goes uphill through a forest-free alpine area, up to the ridge, which offers a unique view of the glacier of the 2,884 meter high Keeskogel - the highest and only glacier in the Grossarltal. From here you descend to the Modereggalm, which is located at 1,720 meters. At the Modereggalm there are also delicacies from home-made specialties. The descent from the Modereggalm is then a rather steep path, where you get back to the starting point of the tour.
