MTB closer to home with a free komoot region – Swabian Alb

Mountain Biking Collection by VAUDE

Quickly pop to your nearest VAUDE store, pick up a voucher for a free komoot region, and hop on your bike. The Rhine-Neckar region in south-west Germany has long been a favourite amongst cyclists. In times like this, it’s worth taking a closer look at what lies on your doorstep. In this Collection, we introduce hand-picked MTB routes around the VAUDE cities of Reutlingen, Tübingen, and Ludwigsburg, which are suitable for both all abilities.

All of these routes are possible with a hardtail bike. Some stages have a lot of single trails for which a fully is maybe better, depending on your technical skills. Don’t forget to pack enough food and drinks as many restaurants are closed at the moment, and you don’t want to shorten your trip to quieten your rumbling stomach.

Please also remember to bring a repair kit and some tools in case of an emergency. If you have a major breakdown the German Federation of Cyclists (ADFC) offers a towing service for bicycles.

The VAUDE stores in Ludwigsburg, Tübingen and Reutlingen and a convenient starting place for the rides. You can pick up a voucher for a free komoot region in the store before setting off on your adventure. We recommend choosing the Swabian Alb or the Souther Neckar regions so you can download all the routes in this Collection on your smartphone and enjoy offline navigation.

This tour takes you with a beautiful loop over the Schaichtal to the Bebenhausen monastery. Most of the time you are on gravel paths and forest roads. To spice things up a bit, we have installed a few small single trails, which should not be a problem with a modern hardtail. It starts at our VAUDE store in the city center or at your front door. First you follow the Neckar out of the city, before you turn into the forest and you sink into nature. After a short rest at the marked viewpoint, the path continues up and down to Bebenhausen Monastery, which you can explore depending on the current opening times or simply admire from the outside. And then you will be back in the city - hopefully exhausted, tired and satisfied.

This tour combines both to create a wonderful everyday escape on a mountain bike. You start in downtown Reutlingen and drive along the Echaz until you turn into the mountains and crank up to the Burgstein. There you will also find the Greifenstein castle ruins, of which only a few wall remains are left. On this tour through the Neckar Valley and the surrounding mountains, the way is definitely the goal. Many small single trails and the panorama of the surrounding area combine to make a great after-work or morning trip, which is still not too exhausting. You start in the city center of Reutlingen and first drive along side roads towards the northeast, where you meet the Neckar after about 15 kilometers. This is where the fun really begins: trail follows trail, you meet the river again and again or overlook it from above. For the last few kilometers you leave the Neckar behind you and follow the spinning channel back to Reutlingen.

Would you like a medium-sized end-of-the-day round with a good amount of altitude meters to work out? Then you are guaranteed to get your money's worth with this tour to the Glemser Reservoir. In addition to decent ramps, there are also a few crisp trails that are waiting to be discovered by you.You start in Reutlingen and first warm yourself up on relatively gentle slopes up to the Glemser Reservoir. A small stop is always worthwhile here, just for the sight of the lake. Now it gets down to business: the climb to Grasberg is steep and long. It is not a shame if you might descend and push here briefly. You will be rewarded with a cool, flowing single trail and a top view from Hännersteigfels over the Alb.Then it goes downhill quickly before you drive back to Reutlingen with a few manageable small counter climbs and a last trail.
