What could be better than the breathtaking mountain panorama after a sweaty climb that you have earned yourself on your bike? When you can expect such fantastic views as in the Jungfrau region in the Bernese Oberland, there's hardly anything better. And yet the area around the towns of Grindelwald, Wengen, Mürren, Lauterbrunnen and the Haslital has much more to offer. Here you can expect beautiful alpine mountain scenery, impressive waterfalls, picturesque valleys, idyllic villages, cosy mountain huts and of course great opportunities for you and your mountain bike. With the eleven tours of this collection we present you some particularly beautiful trails of the region.
Grindelwald, situated in the centre of the Jungfrau Region, is the ideal starting point for day tours in this area. Situated at the foot of the Eiger, this lively mountain village with five specialised bike hotels, two competent bike shops including bike rental and a handful of dedicated guides with the best trail insider knowledge you could wish for, offers the perfect base for your biking holiday in the Jungfrau Region. Mürren is recommended as a second starting point or excursion destination. The former Walser settlement lies on a terrace above the Lauterbrunnen Valley at an altitude of 1,650 metres. The car-free village at the foot of the Schilthorn with the revolving restaurant Piz Gloria, which became famous as the location for a James Bond film, can be reached by cable car, but of course also by bike.
Well developed and signposted cycle paths, the freeride route in Lauterbrunnen and all-mountain tours of the finest quality are the hallmarks of this biking region. Mountain biking is generally permitted on the 800 kilometres of marked hiking trails. The natural routes promise you a lot of riding fun if you are a single-trailer biker. But also adrenaline junkies get their money's worth. The four-kilometre freeride route from Grütschalp to Lauterbrunnen with a depth of 600 metres was created by former World Cup professional and track construction expert Claudio Calouri. Trail and north-shore areas, steeply sloping passages and flow sections alternate here and provide great challenges on the bike.
The Jungfrau region lies in the middle of the Bernese Oberland, between Lakes Brienz and Thun and the triumvirate of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Grindelwald, Wengen, Mürren, Lauterbrunnen and Haslital are the main holiday resorts in the middle of this enchanting mountain world. You can easily arrive in your own car, just remember that Wengen and Mürren are car-free places. Maybe you will make this the motto of your holiday and arrive completely by train? That's no problem either: from Basel you can reach the Jungfrau region quickly and easily via Intercity, from Zurich and Geneva you have to change trains in Bern. Taxis, shuttles and buses ensure that you are mobile even without your own car.
Not so many kilometers await you on this tour, but a few meters in altitude - which makes it a short but also demanding pleasure. Your reward is fantastic views and cozy places to stop for refreshments with many regional delicacies. The tour starts at the train station in the center of Grindelwald at an altitude of around 1,000 meters. You climb the first slopes on a well-paved path. It is only nine kilometers to the first highlight of the tour, but there are only 800 vertical meters uphill. In addition to a fantastic panorama, the Hüttenzauber restaurant awaits you on the Bussalp. If you don't feel hungry there, you can still make the short descent to the next stop. You can reach the bistro "Rasthysi" via a beautiful gravel track just three kilometers away and thus another opportunity to discover the mountain worlds with culinary delights.

The spice is in a nutshell: for a good six kilometers there is both a decent climb that will make you sweat and a short but ingenious descent. The increase looks pretty flat at the beginning, but is increasing. After starting in Mürren, you first pedal slowly up the mountain on a paved road. Asphalt later becomes gravel and exertion sweat.Once at the top, you will experience the pure, real mountain world with grazing cows and great views as far as the eye can see. The Bernese Alps in particular leave an impressive impression. After enjoying the view in peace, plunge into the descent with a smile. But please be aware: the single trail is a little challenge and requires a little concentration. Because as already mentioned: This tour is short, but definitely not boring!
Once up and down again: this short trail for in between is perfect if you only want to let off steam, but still want to go high into the beautiful mountains. Because as short as the exit is, it is so varied and action-packed. You're on the right off-road trails all the time. In order to get up into the mountains for the time being, before you really get started, let the Mürrenbahn take you down around 685 meters in altitude. Information about the operating times of the train can be found here: jungfrau.ch/de-ch/live/betriebsdaten.In the beginning, a really steep climb is waiting for you, where you can already work out properly. But don't worry: As you drive up, it gets easier. In addition, the entire route is peppered with wonderful views of the Swiss mountains. So it's really not a bad idea to stop and enjoy the panorama.
