Mountain bike routes for kids in the Brixen Valley – nice and easy

Mountain Biking Collection by Kitzbüheler Alpen

The Kitzbuhel Alps are a true El Dorado for mountain bikers. Countless trails wind their way through the breathtaking mountains with snow-capped peaks, glittering mountain lakes, cozy alpine pastures and breathtaking descents. You don't need to be a seasoned biking pro to immerse yourself in spectacular nature. In the Kitzbühel Alps, exciting biking adventures for the whole family await you and your loved ones. In this Collection, we have put together seven beautiful routes around the Brixen Valley, which will be great fun for you and your kids.

"Nice and easy" is the motto of our kids' routes as it makes no sense to push our little bikers too hard. They don’t need kilometre-long climbs or high alpine ascents but they will love fantastic views and flowing trails nonetheless. On these routes, jumping into a cool mountain lake, squealing with joy, or a picnic on a high mountain peak are all included. There are also a few detours to leisure parks or a panoramic ride in a gondola. The seven routes follow some nice trails, mostly on easy cycle paths and farm tracks.

The Kitzbuhel Alps have so much to offer that you and your kids are guaranteed not to get bored. Highlights include a ride on the Alpenrose gondola at an altitude of over 1,700 meters (5,577 feet), a trip to the educational "Hexenwasser" leisure park, a picnic at idyllic Schwarzsee or a descent along the flowing Sun Trail.

Whether you are young or old, we are sure you will the day with a big grin on your face, satisfied from your unforgettable ride.

Easy mountain bike ride. Great for any fitness level. Suitable for all skill levels.

If that's not the perfect tour for the whole family: It combines alpine exhilaration with fast-paced trails, which are also feasible for the younger family members without much experience. The first 500 vertical meters to Hochbrixen are done with the mountain railway. This saves you the tedious ascent over the Sonnberg.
You then start on Hochbrixen at the mountain station, where the first descent to the mountain inn Nieding is waiting. Here you can take a little break with the best view. Strengthened, you are ready for an approximately two-kilometer climb with the 200 meters in altitude waiting. A short stretch on asphalt and then later in the Gsengweg on gravel through forest and open spaces, which always offer a fantastic view of the entire Brixental. If it gets too much, just push and save yourself the strength for the following trail. It will be worth it: The Sun Trail is a flow trail as it is in the book and will, just like the kids, put a big smile on your face.
Back in Bressanone there are many options. How about a family trip to a large leisure facility with an adventure swimming pool and swimming lake? Or a few laps at the skill park at the valley station of the SkiWelt mountain railway with a new pump track. Or you can just take the lift up again - you can't get enough of biking here anyway.

"Small but powerful" - this tour is perfect for families with sporty kids. It demands the fitness of the whole family to the right degree. True to the motto "first work, then pleasure" there is twice the reward for the climb on the first half of the tour: firstly in the form of delicious cake on the Klooalm, secondly on the return trip to Kirchberg, which runs exclusively downhill.
You start in Kirchberg, past the valley station Gaisberg, always along the Aschauer Ache. A picturesque bike path runs right next to the stream, on which you can gently climb higher and higher. You can take a short break at the adventure playground right next to the bike path. Now and then you cross the street, then you have to be careful. Otherwise you are car-free and can fully concentrate on the beautiful landscape. According to Aschau, the valley divides into the lower and the upper reason. You turn left into the Oberer Grund and it gets a little steeper. Here you head for your milestone through the beautiful landscape reserve: the Klooalm.
In short it gets a bit tiring, but you can simply look forward to delicious, homemade cakes and delicious dairy products from our own production. And the fact that the only way back to Kirchberg is downhill. Right across from the adventure playground there is a BMX track that promises a lot of fun again. If you and the kids still have power at the end, a small detour to the bike skill park behind the valley station of the Fleckalmbahn is worthwhile: here the whole family can work out for the rest of the day on the course, which was especially designed for beginners ,

Although this tour is not particularly long, you can still spend a lot of time en route. Because especially when it is nice and warm in summer, several lakes and ponds invite you to linger. There are also several places to stop for refreshments on your route so that you and your family can really enjoy yourself on the way.Start is in Kirchberg, from where you first cycle comfortably along the Aschauer Ache towards Kitzbühel. When you see the golf course, the first stage goal is almost reached: a short distance along the tracks and you can enjoy the view of the picturesque Schwarzsee, which invites you to take a first dip in the cool water or at least take a break with an idyllic panorama. After driving around the Schwarzsee, the route takes you up to the Steuerberg, where you can stop at the inn of the same name and then enjoy the impressive view of the Wilder Kaiser. There are three picturesque ponds in a row: the Hasenberg pond, the Vogelsberger pond and the Gieringer pond. The Gieringer pond in particular is a real insider tip. A small restaurant with a terrace and a swimming area invites you to take a long break. The way back leads past the Schwarzsee, then you cycle along the same bike path as on the way back to Kirchberg.

A whole day of fun for young and old. As the? Quite simply: this tour is not just a bike tour. The experience begins before you even get on a mountain bike. First of all, you and your family take the gondola lift from Brixen im Thale up to Hochbrixen - 500 vertical meters that fly by and that are accompanied by a fantastic view. Once at the top, leave the picturesque Filzalmsee on the left and head for the highlight of the day: the witch water. This is a cool “amusement park” for kids, but it offers much more than swings, slides and roller coasters. All kinds of knowledge about animals, physical phenomena or cultural peculiarities is conveyed here in a smart way. And that is a lot of fun for the little visitors. Be sure to plan enough time for the witch's water and don't forget your bathing suit, because it can get lively here too! On the way back, the Filzalmsee mountain experience awaits you. Then there is again the opportunity to swim and play.
You can of course take the gondola back to the valley to Brixen. But you can also rock the SunTrail to top it off. First it goes downhill, to the mountain inn Nieding over a quiet road that leads down into the valley. To the left behind the mountain inn, the road leads uphill to the SunTrail, approx. 200 meters in altitude. Pedal along the Gsngweg to the SunTrail entrance. The light SunTrail runs almost down into the valley and spits you out at the gates of Bressanone. Incidentally, this tour describes the long variant including the Sun Trail.

A pleasure tour for the whole family! It leads you through the picturesque Windau valley and always offers cozy places to stop for refreshments and the chance to get to know regional delicacies. The highlight is the Käsealm Straubing. In the rustic hut you get rustic rustic snacks and, of course, delicious cheese specialties from the region. The tour starts at the tourist office in Westendorf, can be reached from Kirchberg or Brixen via the Brixental valley bike path 21. From here you briefly follow the Brixental cycle path on the road into the Windau, past the golf course and then right down to the Lendwirt. Then we continue along the idyllic mountain river until the route turns right to the Käsealm Straubing (No. 207). From here you continue towards Windau until you come to the paved road. This not heavily trafficked road (Route 208) leads you comfortably back to Westendorf, where a tasty ice cream may be waiting for you as a reward.

Intermediate mountain bike ride. Good fitness required. Suitable for all skill levels.

This tour is not technically difficult, but because of its length it is particularly suitable for fit families. It offers a lot of variety, enough breaks and refreshments as well as exciting mountain bike excursions. After starting in Kirchberg and a few kilometers along the Aschauer Ache, you drive past the golf course and follow the signs for the Brixentalradweg No. 21. Passing the idyllic Schwarzsee, the path leads directly to the medieval old town of Kitzbühel. There is also the opportunity to take a first break at one of the many ice cream shops. You continue through the city and then briefly uphill, past the Hornbahn. Then turn left into valley bike path no.20, which offers wonderfully beautiful insights and views along the Roman path towards St. Johann. In Oberndorf you change the valley side and immediately after the church the path with the number 283 leads over the Bichlach to Reith bei Kitzbühel. Turn briefly on the road towards Kitzbühel and after the Country Club turn right onto the bike path along the Achenweg. This leads back past the Schwarzsee golf course and along the Ache to Kirchberg.
You can also extend this day tour to St. Johann. If it gets too far for the kids, you can take the regional train or the S-Bahn back to the starting point free of charge with a valid guest card.

How about a family tour high up in the Alps with a wonderful view of snow-capped mountain peaks, with breaks in cozy alpine huts and sunbathing on a sparkling mountain lake? If you think that is too exhausting, then we have just the right tour for you and your loved ones. The trick is as simple as it is ingenious: Instead of despairing at the ascent, simply let the Alpenrosenbahn lift you up to 1,760 meters, where the adventure can begin.
It starts at the mountain station, where you can start the tour with a coffee or cocoa on the sun terrace. The ALPINOLINO Discovery Park is waiting for you here. Then it always goes downhill, past the Fleidingalm and then slightly uphill to the Brechhornhaus. The view of the surrounding mountains is fantastic. The Brechhornhaus offers a nice selection of regional delicacies - there is something for everyone.
Immediately behind it is a very short uphill climb to one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the region (the Kreuzjöchlsee), which you should definitely pay a short visit before returning to the valley. This time only downhill, turn left before the Fleidingalm and keep rolling along the bike path no. 209 to the valley station of the Alpenrosenbahn.
