Regardless of whether you plan a relaxed stroll with your family or a challenging high-alpine summit hike, a stop at an alpine pasture or mountain hut should be an essential part of your itinerary. We’ve put together 13 hikes which take you to some of the best culinary spots in Tyrol, a beautiful mountainous area in western Austria.
The hikes in this Collection don’t just take you along boring farm tracks from one alpine pasture to the next. You walk along natural paths and hidden forest trails with magnificent views accompanying you every step of the way.
At the mountain huts, you can look forward to tasty regional specialties: delicious homemade alpine cheese, classic Kaspressknödel (Tyrolean cheese dumplings), and home-baked pastries. Your taste buds will tingle as you explore the western Oberland, the Kitzbühel Alps in the east, the Karwendel mountain range, and the Wilder Kaiser in the north and the Ötztal, Zillertal and Stubaital valleys in the south.
You can reach almost all of the food stops via short, easy paths or even catch a gondola. In the Karwendel, however, you can really earn your lunch clocking up miles in the mountains.
Whichever hike you decide on, rest assured that great food and wonderful scenery awaits.
