Wales is perfectly formed. Small enough that you can see the scenery change in a day's riding but big enough that you can challenge yourself to ride across it in a day. The Bryan Chapman audax rides end to end and back again in a weekend, you start in Chepstow by the Severn Bridge on a Saturday morning, head over the Brecon Beacons, through the rolling hills of mid wales, over Snowdonia and Anglesey in time for dinner - El JaskowskaEl's komoot profile - komoot.com/user/451602945270

    Claerddu Bothy

    Mountain Biking Highlight

Accessible from the road via a short track/field and rock bridge over the river this is one of the most luxurious bothies! Two reception rooms downstairs and a kitchen with a tap and small cooker. Upstairs there is lots of space for sleeping. Best enjoyed in the colder months when quieter!

    Claerwen Reservoir

    Mountain Biking Highlight

The Claerwen Reservoir is the largest and the newest of the four Elan Valley Reservoirs. Once you reach the top, another "wow“ experience awaits you!

The view over the huge lake is simply breathtaking. And the best: A really nice gravel path leads along it. Without any traffic, without people, without cell phone network. Here you have your peace.

    Elan Reservoir Gravel

    Bike Touring Highlight (Segment)

Great gravel track with stunning views of the reservoirs. It's busiest closest to the visitor centre as expected!

    The Sunken Road

    Mountain Biking Highlight (Segment)

The road here has been eroded into a watery, rocky track. Either get your feet wet or negotiate a way around the bigger puddles! Popular with local mountain bikers.

    Abergwesyn Common

    Bike Touring Highlight (Segment)

One of the most beautiful stretches of road in Wales or maybe the world, this valley from Abergwesyn to the well-known and much feared Devil's Staircase is an incredible place to ride your bike.

The area is looked after by the National Trust.

    Devil's Staircase 'Rough Stuff' detour

    Bike Touring Highlight (Segment)

An alternative climb up the infamous Devil's Staircase, but up the gravel fire road.

Gradients are more gentle than the road climb and the surface is good enough for slick tyres in good, dry conditions, so no gravel bike required!

    View Point over Llyn Brianne

    Road Cycling Highlight

Stop for a photo or a picnic, an amazing view over Llyn Brianne you'll wonder if you left Wales and cycled to Norway

    The Gap

    Mountain Biking Highlight (Segment)

This off road trail tackles one of the Brecon Beacons’ classic MTB routes; the Gap. This is the pass between Fan-y-Big and Cribyn, topping out at 600 metres above sea level. It's a technical trail that will test you, whether on a gravel or mountain bike. Be prepared for a bit of hike-a-bike near the top where it gets really chunky!

Expert bike ride. Very good fitness required. Some portions of the Tour may require you to push your bike.
