Stopping for a break at a quaint brewery or historical beer cellar is often a welcome respite on a hike. In this Collection, we present nine hikes through Franconia and the Upper Palatine in Germany that include a beer stop en route. These regions are famous for their brewing: countless private breweries dedicate themselves to producing liquid gold and serving the highest quality beer and delicacies. And, of course, a cold beer tastes even better after a few miles of hiking through the countryside.

All of the hikes in this Collection can be reached with the VGN so you can enjoy your beer without having to drive. The Gräfenberg train, Trubachtal Valley Express, and other VGN leisures lines allow you to enjoy stress-free hiking from May to November. Some buses even have a bike trailer if you prefer to cycle through the region. The lines take you quickly and conveniently to and from our beer hikes, stopping at beautiful places on the way.

The varied routes in this Collection have plenty of insider tips about the region. You can choose between hiking classics such as the ‘5 Seidla Steig’, a ramble through the Franconian Lake District, or learn about Neumarkter beer.

Two very special linden trees are the namesake for this tour, which takes you from Gräfenberg along the Walberla to Wiesenthau. From Gräfenberg you hike gently uphill across wide meadows to Kasberg, where the first linden tree awaits you: The Kasberger lime tree is now held by countless iron supports

It is best to plan a whole day for this route, as it takes you to seven breweries and cellars that make the hike a real pleasure. However, only five of them serve their beer directly on site - which is completely sufficient. There is also Franconian home cooking that goes perfectly with the liquid gold
