The Attersee-Attergau region is known as a place to both relax and be active. Around Attersee, Austria’s largest lake, you can explore numerous miles of hiking trails. From leisurely strolls along the shore to high peaks and mountain slopes, the region offers something for every hiker. In this Collection, we’ve chosen 10 sporty Tours which combine the idyll of Lake Attersee with grandiose mountain peaks. After a few tough ascents, you’ll be rewarded with stunning panoramas over the Höllen Mountains and the Dachstein.
The hikes vary in length but all of them are designed as sporty day hikes. Sure-footedness and a head for heights is needed on some of the trails. We’ve also included a few fun scrambles up to the Brenner, Schafberg and Hochlecken peaks. After working up an appetite climbing, you can enjoy a well-deserved pit-stop at a mountain inn.
Two of the hikes can be split into two days: the five-summit tour and the hike from Kreuzstein to Schafberg. You will find information about accommodation in the stage descriptions. The hikes in this Collection are all varied, but they have one thing in common – showcasing the Attersee Lake. You can explore the different sides of the calming water, forgetting everyday stress.
The towns of Steinbach and Unterach are good basecamps if you plan to spend several days exploring the region. You can look forward to relaxing on the lakeshore after a great day hiking.
If you also want to explore the mountains around Attersee on a mountain bike, we recommend the KABONG Trail. You don't even need your own bike as you can rent one at the starting point in St. Georgen. The bike shop Bikesport Attergau even offers electric mountain bikes.
