Hiking Collection by Lech Zürs

Majestic heights, colourful mountain meadows and fragrant forests. In winter, this region is popular with skiers, whilst in summer, it transforms into a hikers’ paradise, an escape from daily life to recharge your tired batteries – Lech Zürs has many sides. In this Collection, we would like to introduce you to the one that reflects the sun’s glow and represents a special kind of power for many people.

We take you to crystal-clear mountain lakes, to energetically rushing mountain streams, raging waterfalls and bubbling springs. Over the course of 9- day hikes, of varying difficulties, you will experience the region’s diverse water spots.

Some routes start in the charming centre of Lech whilst others begin at the top of a panoramic gondola ride. Most of the hikes take you up to lofty heights, showcasing breathtaking views. However, some are more relaxed, with just a few meters of altitude difference and a focus on the culinary side of the region.

So, time to get going and discover the beautiful, untouched places around Lech Zürs.

The Lech begins its journey to the Danube at the picturesque Formarinsee and the 125-kilometer Lechweg starts here. On this almost 14 km long hike you will get to know the first stage of the long-distance hiking trail. You walk through one of the last wild river landscapes in Europe and are constantly accompanied by the bubbling of the Lech on your way.Past the Formarinalpe and the Ibex monument, you walk across green alpine meadows, framed by dark conifers and light mountain ridges. After about nine kilometers you hike past the Älpele inn, perfect for a break in the middle of the beautiful landscape. The stony Lechuferweg leads you to the fish pond in Zug and from there along the shore to Lech. Since you accompany the river on its way for a while on this hike, you always hike slightly downhill.Along the way you will pass great rest areas. You will find several places to stop for refreshments along the route if you do not want to carry any provisions yourself. In Lech there are also many restaurants to end your hiking day.You can get to the starting point from the post office in Lech with the hiking bus. In the warm months, the bus commutes up to Lake Formarin several times a day.All information about the 125 km long Lechweg can be found here: lechzuers.com/sommer/wandern/lechwegYou can view the matching komoot collection here: komoot.de/collection/560/der-lechweg-8-tage-an-oesterreichs-wildestem-fluss

Many enthusiastic hikers make a pilgrimage to Vorarlberg for the Lechweg. You master part of this with this tour. And hike above the Lech Gorge to the dreamy village of Warth. The starting point is the hiking car park in front of the post office in Lech. From here, a narrow path leads you towards the Bodenalpe. Soon this turns into a wide forest path and so you always hike above the Lech Gorge to a small wooden bridge that leads you over the Lech. After the crossing (and maybe a photo or two - the view from this bridge is really fantastic), it goes a little bit uphill for a while to the center of Warth.Once here, it is a good idea to pay a visit to the local parish church or to reward yourself in the butcher forest for the mastered hike. The hiking bus finally brings you back to Lech: lechzuers.com/service/ortsbus-lech-zuersTip: Of course you can also take this tour in the opposite round.

A little over nine kilometers, a fantastic panorama and - of course - peaceful rippling and sparkling water in the sun await you on this tour. The tour around Lake Zürs - one of the most beautiful places of strength that the region around Lech-Zürs has to offer - begins at the valley station of the Seekopfbahn. You get in to get to the actual starting point of the tour. Before you know it, you're already on the 2,160-meter plateau that the lake calls home. In winter, its reflecting water disappears under a thick blanket of snow. In summer it shows itself in all its glory and can also be felt from the long jetty. Before you start your hike, a short moment of relaxation must be allowed here. Then it says: Once around the lake and continue towards Lech until you finally reach the quiet Madlochalpe. Here the path branches off in the direction of Zürs, which you have a wonderful view of directly above the Schröflialpe.Along the wild Zürsbach you walk across meadows and narrow paths back to your starting point, Lech am Arlberg. You can find all information about mountain railway operations in summer here: lechzuers.com/sommer/bergbahnen-im-sommer-in-lech-zuers

This hike first lets you experience the Zugertal natural jewel with its sparkling Spullersee and then the 2.009 meter high Stierlochjoch. In between, of course, one or the other alp is waiting to cater for you.Let's go with the hiking bus towards Spullersee. While the journey through the beautiful Zugertal valley already gives you some unforgettable impressions, the next highlight is waiting at the end station: the Spullersee. An originally natural high mountain lake, which is now used for energy generation, but has therefore not lost a bit of its turquoise-blue "glitter power". In any case, you should pause briefly and take a photo or two before you hike over the southern dam to its other end.The path increases slightly as you leave the bank paths. And soon you will see the Ravensburger Hut, which will be happy to cater to you and give you a fantastic view of the lake you have just circled. Then it goes uphill for a short while. Over a stone bridge, past another alp and through a few loops you reach the highest point of your hike: the Stierlochjoch. And with it a few spectacular views, which you are welcome to take in before you go down across alpine meadows, through forests and past an impressive waterfall (with a barbecue) towards Zug.On the wide walking path you have the choice: either you walk along the Lech back to the place of the same name or you get on the bus at the fish pond, which also takes you back there. Time to circumnavigate the wonderful Spullersee. A tour that you should not miss - whether you live nearby or just visit Lech Zürs. You can pack your fishing and climbing gear right away! But you are also in the right place for a leisurely family hike. The hiking bus takes you to the Spullersee, where the motto is: stop and enjoy the view. Yes, you may feel like unpacking the snacks you've brought with you. Because it tastes twice as good with the panorama. As soon as you are ready, a riverside path leads you to the southern dam. From here you can take a detour to the Ravensburger hut, which is a little higher up, and enjoy regional delicacies before the footpath on the other side of the lake takes you back to your starting point - and thus to the bus stop of the hiking bus. Information about the departure times can be found here: lechzuers.com/service/ortsbus-lech-zuersTip: You can fish in the Spullersee with a fishing card from the Lech Zürs Tourismus information office. The Spullerplatten climbing garden is also waiting for adrenaline junkies. With the water-eaten plates on the south side of the Spuller Schafberg, it forms a natural climbing oasis.

Expert Hiking Tour. Great for any fitness level. Sure-footedness, sturdy shoes and alpine experience required.

Every year the most beautiful place in Austria is chosen - and in 2015 the Formarinsee was well deserved. Its beauty is still hard to believe.A bus takes you almost to its bank, you only have to master a small part on a slightly sloping route. Then its emerald green water opens up in front of you. Peacefully placed - directly under the red wall - the lake represents a magical piece of earth. And the starting point for your crisp and really idyllic circular hike. You hike northwest from the lake to the Freiburger hut, where you can put your legs up and let the sun shine on your stomach - which you hopefully ordered for your hike as well as a nice refreshment. After that, you have two options: Either you start the return journey on the same path that brought you here, or you take the footpath above the east bank. But be careful: the second variant requires a head for heights! Finally you will reach the bus stop again and with it the bus that will take you back to Lech in a comfortable way. The tour to the Monzabonalpe is characterized by wonderful nature, breathtaking views and a lot of variety. As always, you will of course also be accompanied by sparkling water. And the very best? You don't have to master a single climb. You also start this hike in the center of Lech. From here, the gondola takes you directly to the mountain station of the 2,350-meter-high Rüfikopf. Already from the cabin, but at the latest from the mountain station, you have some great views of the impressive mountains that surround you.Once at the top, follow the signs to the Monzabonsee. If you want, you can take a little break here. But only to marvel at the impressive panorama, please. With the culinary part of your hike, you should definitely wait until the Monzabonalpe. Among other things, it is famous for its delicious cakes and, above all, fresh cow's milk.If you have strengthened yourself and are ready to descend, you can tackle it directly. Behind the Alpe, a narrow path leads you into a hollow, then you climb - always along a small stream - steeply downhill to the Zürs heating plant.Again, you have the choice: either walk up to the bus stop "Seekopf" or follow the path towards Lech.Information on how to get there and the Rüfikopfbahn can be found here: lechzuers.com/sommer/bergbahnen-im-sommer-in-lech-zuers.

Green, green and even more green. In between the peaceful lapping of the Lech and finally the refreshing "floods" of Lake Formarin. This is what awaits you on this slightly over 14 kilometer tour.It starts in the center of the hiking village Lech. From here you hike - always along the mountain stream of the same name - towards Zug. The valley becomes narrower and you also come across the Älpele, a small alp, where you can stop for a little rest, depending on your mood. Then you will soon reach one of the most beautiful parts of this tour: Directly at the confluence of the Formarin and Spullerbach, exactly where the Lech is born, a couple of sturdy wooden walkways lead you across the rushing waters. Wood becomes stone and roots and you continue to walk past cascades and bubbling springs, over dreamy mountain meadows. Until he finally opens up to you - Lake Formarin, the destination of this tour.It is definitely worth staying here for a while. Perhaps to eat the food we brought with us, to plunge into the ice-cold waters or just to let the dreamlike panorama work its magic on us.Whatever you choose: take all the time in the world for a break by the deep blue water. You deserve it! And whenever you want, the blue local bus takes you back to Lech. You can find all the information here: lechzuers.com/service/ortsbus-lech-zuers

The hiking region Tannberg is one of the most beautiful places that Lech Zürs has to offer. This is exactly why you will also explore them during this hike of just over ten kilometers.A hiking bus takes you from Lech town center up to Oberlech. Get off at the “Schlössle” terminus and start your tour. You will reach the viewpoint "Tannegg" via an initially paved road, then hike along a forest path and a wooden bridge, steadily uphill to the Gaisbühelalpe. It is worth taking a short stop here and taking a look inside the Alpe. After the end of the dairy business, it was preserved in its former state and has been lovingly cared for to this day. A window opens up the view inside and takes you back to earlier times.Enough amazed - let's go on! Over dreamy mountain meadows with extensive chive fields it goes - sometimes uphill, sometimes downhill - to the Auenfeldsattel. Then continue to the Lower Auenfeldalpe, where hungry hikers are also welcome and can take home a good piece of Vorarlberg cheese if desired. Then you hike, following the stream, out through the beautiful floodplain field.Soon a narrow path appears on the right, which leads you to Körbersee, the first dreamy mountain lake of this tour. You can linger on its bank, and - if you dare - even venture into its cold water. But there is also a second lake waiting: The Kalbelesee is also a wonderful piece of earth and the last highlight of this route. It is only a few meters from the Kalbelesee to the bus stop, where you can get on the hiking bus and comfortably take the ride back to Lech.
