One of the most beautiful lakes in Switzerland, Lake Walen has epic trails and bike paths. Nestled in the foothills of the Eastern Alps, the lake is the ideal biking area for all levels of ability, from beginners to advanced bikers. Hot summer days are perfect to explore the network of trails around the lake before jumping in for a refreshing dip.
All routes offer a fantastic view of Lake Walen with a planned swim afterwards. The level of the bike tours is varied: you can simplify the difficult trails by returning the same way. Most routes are well signposted throughout.
All of the routes in this Collection are mountain bike rides. It doesn't matter whether you ride a classic MTB or an electric MTB – you can ride all the routes with the bike of your choice. The difference whether you ride with or without an engine can only be seen in the ride time and your condition. With the E-MTB you will reach your destination about a third faster than if you ride a conventional MTB. With the E-MTB, longer distances and more altitude meters are possible in the same amount of time. When choosing a route, it is advisable to pay attention to the range and altitude performance of your E-MTB so that you do not run out of battery power on the way. Driving without motor support with the E-MTB requires a lot of power and endurance.
The Churfirsten Panoramatour is a delight for experienced trail bikers who feel safe and comfortable in the S2 to S3 difficulty range. Beginners will enjoy riding the most when experiencing the colourful panorama at the beginning of the trail and then riding back to the lake for some bathing fun. The trail at Alp Schwaldis is only for experienced bikers.
The route to the Alpengasthof Murgseen, starting at Lake Walen, is for bikers who prefer quiet paths and places. There are rarely bikers here and only a few hikers on weekends. The Alpengasthaus is an ideal place to stop for refreshments and promises a fantastic view over Lake Murgsee. You can also do a round of the lake on the rowing boat there.
The route to Alp Tschigla is a ride for everyone with a beautiful guesthouse on the Alps and magnificent views over the lake.
The easiest way to reach the Seebenalp Bike Route is by Postbus directly from Walenstadt railway station to Tannenboden or drive the few minutes by car to the starting point. For e-bikers, this is a nice and easy warm-up phase.
The fifth and last route is another classic for all bike levels at the popular mountain restaurant Palfries – a great stop in pristine mountain scenery.
All routes are easy to reach by bus or train. Walenstadt has a well-connected railway station: you can reach the Flumserberg near Tannenboden in a few minutes with the Post Bus if you want to go to the bike park or do the Seebenalp route. If you arrive by car take the Walenstadt exit from Zurich or take the Flums exit from Chur and drive to Walenstadt (flumserberg.ch/Sommer/Infos/Anreise).
