The glittering water of the lake, fragrant herbs on its shore, blooming mountain meadows with fluttering butterflies and rugged rocks on the way to the Cabane des Marindes await you on our hike around the Lac de Montsalvens and through the Vanil Noir nature reserve.

Aline Hayoz-Andrey loves being close to nature and knows the flora and fauna around the lake and in Vanil Noir. She will take you on a very special tour where you will collect herbs such as oregano or stinging nettle on the lush shores of the Lac de Montsalvens. At the Cabane des Marindes she will show you how to use the collected herbs to make delicious dishes.

The easy 10 kilometer hike takes you from Charmey around the Lac de Montsalvens and is ideal for families. The trail runs along the lake and sometimes at the height of the Monse, from where you can enjoy beautiful views of the lake. On a large part of the route, trees provide soothing shade, making the tour a pleasant experience even on hot days. On the way you can discover the diverse flora around the lake and pick fresh herbs, just like Aline Hayoz-Andrey likes to do. The environmental engineer and botanist loves the bond with nature and likes to show hikers what plants grow around the lake. If you want, Aline takes you to the nature reserve Vanil Noir and the Cabane des Marindes. The path through the nature reserve branches off from the loop around the Lac de Montsalvens. Depending on your mood, you can plan this trip in your hike. If the tour is too long for a day, you can plan an overnight stay at the Cabane des Marindes SAC Cabin. The hike up to 1,868 meters requires good condition and surefootedness. If you wander through the nature reserve Vanil Noir with Aline, it shows you the lush plant world, ranging from Mediterranean in the lower layers to Arctic in the higher elevations. But you are not allowed to pick herbs here in the nature reserve. 500 plant species and over 70 butterfly species have their safe home here. With a little luck you will see chamois and ibex on the way along the lush mountain meadows, the rugged rocks and edged Schratten.Once at the top of the hut, you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the surrounding peaks from the terrace and, together with Aline, take a closer look at the herbs brought by the lake. With homemade herbal crepes you let the day end in nature, before you go back to the valley. If you would like to hike with Aline, you can contact her through her website montagne-aventure.ch/contact.
