The Elbe Müritz Cycle Path connects the Elbe and the Mecklenburg Lake District. A wide, slightly hilly landscape stretches between the impressive river and the glittering lakes. Wild romantic forests with untouched nature, wide fields and picturesque green meadows adorn the edge of the path. Enchanted moors, lush meadows, unique nature reserves and beautiful beaches line the banks of the lakes and the Elbe.

On the 410 km long Elbe Müritz Cycle Path you can experience this wonderful variety while cycling. The cycle path takes you on seven stages, which are on average about 60 kilometres long, through the beautiful landscape of Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In addition to the unique nature, you will also get to know small towns and dreamy villages that invite you to take a break on the way or welcome you as a stage destination.

In this collection we present the Elbe Müritz Cycle Path with Wittenberge as starting point. Since the cycle path is a circuit, you can start anywhere along the route. The starting point in Wittenberge is easily reached by train. The city is located on the Berlin-Hamburg railway line and is served by local and long-distance trains as well as the S-Bahn from Magdeburg. You can leave just as easily after the tour. In all stage destinations of the Elbe Müritz Cycle Path you will find different accommodations. In addition, all stage destinations have a train station so that you can change to the train at any time if you want to take a shortcut or if the weather is no longer good.

Restaurants and cafés in the villages and towns with regional cuisine await you to enjoy. The beaches of the Elbe and the crystal-clear lakes of the Mecklenburg Lake District, such as the Müritz or the Plauer See, invite you to take a refreshing dip in the water when the temperatures are right.     In Wittenberge begins our round trip on the Elbe-Müritz-Rundweg. Here you can easily reach by train. Wittenberge is approached by both local and long-distance trains. The S-Bahn from Magdeburg also brings you here.On the almost completely flat stage from Wittenberge to Bad Wilsnack you first cycle to the Elbe. On the beautiful Elbe Cycle Path you drive partly directly on the shore or through picturesque, wide river meadows. Along the way, you can stop again and again and enjoy views of the Elbe and the wide meadows from wooden observation towers. Numerous Radlercafés invite you on the bike path to leisurely breaks with a piece of cake and a cup of coffee.After about half the distance you leave the Elbe and follow the Gnevsdorfer Vorfluter, a channel between the Elbe and the Havel. While on one side of the bike path, the glittering in the sun channel, alternate on the other side beautiful fields and dense forests. Just before you reach the Havel, turn north and dive into the picturesque landscape of open fields. At the end of the stage, the cycle path leads you through a shady forest that reaches to the city limits of the stage destination Bad Wilsnack.In the spa town of Bad Wilsnack you can end the day comfortably in the spa and relax there.

    On the second stage from Bad Wilsnack to Meyenburg you will find beautiful passages across vast fields, through woodland and over some hills with great views.Immediately behind Bad Wilsnack you dive back into the forest, which accompanied you the day before to the city limits. While cycling through the cool, shady forest you can enjoy the nature and idyllic places to rest. After leaving the last tree behind you, you will find yourself in a wonderfully wide field and meadow landscape again. A gentle climb will gradually take you to shallow hills, from which you can let your gaze wander over the wide landscape. On the way you cycle through quaint villages, which invite you to take a break.But at the latest in Pritzwalk you can have a more extended rest. The place does not only enchant with cozy cafés and restaurants, but also with its historical old town and the city wall. Strengthened you then follow the Dömnitz out of town. The river leads you through a wild and romantic woodland and then accompanies you along the way on wide fields. On the last kilometers to the stage destination Meyenburg you will enjoy a long descent.

    The third stage of the Elbe-Müritz-Rundweg spoils you again with a large body of water along the shore you cycle along. On the way from Meyenburg to Waren (Müritz) you drive on long stretches along the Müritz.At the beginning of the stage, however, you cycle through the beautiful field and meadow landscape, which you could already enjoy the day before. Idyllic villages, small lakes and woodland provide a pleasant change.About halfway you reach Röbel on the Müritz. Here you can take a leisurely break and enjoy the first glimpse of the water.     On the penultimate stage from Parchim to Karstädt, the highlight is the Ruhner Berge. Although they are called mountains, they are more like hills that you can easily cross by bike.The Müritz-Elde waterway leads you out of Parchim and releases you into the beautiful nature just outside the city. Shady cool forest areas alternate here with fields and meadows. Slowly, the climb begins on the Ruhner mountains. On the open trails that do not lead through the forest, you can enjoy wonderful views of the vast landscape. At the highest point, it is worth taking a detour to the observation tower, because from the top you have a magnificent view of the entire protected landscape area Ruhner Berge.After your visit to the observation tower, a rapid descent awaits you through the beautiful nature of the area seen from above. Forest and meadows just fly past you. Once at the bottom, you will ride comfortably through a tranquil rural area, which is characterized by fields and pastures. Idyllic villages are on the way, where you can always take a break. So you cycle to the final destination Karstädt.     Today the last stage is on the Elbe-Müritz-Rundweg. It leads you from Karstädt back to the starting point of the tour to Wittenberge.Karstädt is surrounded by a wide landscape with lots of nature and that is exactly what you are driving through. As you cycle southwest on the almost flat stretch, you can let your gaze wander over the magnificently expansive fields and meadows and enjoy the cool shade of the woods. At the Rambower Moor you have the opportunity to climb a lookout tower and see the unique moorland landscape from above. With a little patience, you can also observe birds that feel particularly comfortable in the biosphere reserve.Continue past Lake Rudower, where you can stop and take a swim break. On the southwestern shore of the lake is Lenzen, where you'll find a good selection of restaurants and cafes to round off your rest. From Lenzen there are only a few pedal steps to the Elbe. Here you follow the merry loop of the river on the completely flat bike path and enjoy the wide meadows and the proximity to the shore. The last kilometers of the tour can hardly be more beautiful.In the destination Wittenberge you can say goodbye to the Elbe in peace and stop by for a little stroll through the city, before you start your journey home from this beautiful bike ride between the Elbe and Mecklenburg Lake District.
