The Elbe Müritz Cycle Path connects the Elbe and the Mecklenburg Lake District. A wide, slightly hilly landscape that stretches between the impressive river and the glittering lakes. Wild romantic forests, wide fields and picturesque green meadows unfold on either side of the trail. Enchanted moors, lush meadows, unique nature reserves and beautiful beaches line the banks of the lakes and the Elbe.

On the 410-kilometre (255 mi) long Elbe Müritz Cycle Path, you can experience this wonderful variety with the wind in your hair. The cycle path takes you on seven stages that average 60 kilometres (37 mi), through the beautiful landscape of Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In addition to the beautiful countryside, you’ll also get to know small towns and dreamy villages that invite you to take a break en route or welcome you as a stage destination.

In this Collection, I present the Elbe Müritz Cycle Path with Wittenberge as the starting point. Since the cycle path is a circuit, you can start anywhere along the route. Wittenberge is easily reached by train and the city is located on the Berlin-Hamburg railway line. It’s served by local and long-distance trains as well as the S-Bahn from Magdeburg. You can leave just as easily after the trip. In all stage destinations of the Elbe Müritz Cycle Path, you find a variety of accommodation options as well as a train station. You can easily hop on a train to take a shortcut or avoid unfriendly weather.

Restaurants and cafés in the villages and towns await you, offering local foods. The beaches of the Elbe and the crystal-clear lakes of the Mecklenburg Lake District, such as the Müritz or the Plauer See, invite you to take a refreshing dip in the water when the temperatures are right so pack your swimsuits in your panniers.
