A trip to the Faroe Islands can easily turn into a Highlights reel as you chase each spectacular sight and fill up your bank of experiences and memories. But what happens in between those Highlights is a magic that can only be experienced on these desolate isles in the north Atlantic. We embarked on a 3-day bike-packing expedition on the Faroes with a list of places we wanted to see and returned with an experience rich in a deeper understanding and respect for local culture, and a traditional way of life—juxtaposed with encroaching modernity.
The Faroes treat all its visitors alike—their howling wind and piercing rain make no exceptions, their mountains dish out brutality in equal measure and the Faroese are as changeable as both the weather and topography—at once warm then cruel. Be prepared for ups and downs but literally and metaphorically…and return with the insane idea that you need to go back some day.
