Hike around Attersee on the 5-stage long-distance trail

Hiking Collection by
Attersee-Salzkammergut

You'll venture through lush green meadows in the north and through stoic rock faces in the south. You'll climb high mountains, such as the Hochlecken, Schoberstein and the Schafberg, and trek through light-flooded, fragrant forests as you near the edge of the Attersee with its crystal clear, turquoise water. The long-distance hiking trail Attersee-Attergau takes you through differing landscapes as you hike around the lake. In 5 stages covering a total of 100 kilometers (62 miles), you'll circumnavigate the Attersee, Austria's largest inland lake. "Aufi" (Up) from the flat north to the mountainous south - "Owi" (down) to the lake and enjoy - "Umi" (around) by boat - "Eini" into the water to cool down. If at this point your feet need a break, you can take the ferry to the other side of the lake in comfort and enjoy the peace of the water as you go.

As Johann Wolfgang Goethe once said, "Only where you were on foot have you really been," and this is nowhere more relevant than on the shores of the Attersee. This long-distance hike will be a true source of inspiration with a truly spectacular ending. So, what are you waiting for? Lace up your hiking boots and get going.

The third part of the long-distance trail Attersee-Attergau leads to one of the most beautiful pastures of the Salzkammergut, the Eisenaualm. From there, you not only have a magnificent view of the northern collapse of the famous Schafberg but also, of course, the lunar and Attersee lakes. From the village center Unterach am Attersee on the main road to the southwest to the leisure center, then on a jetty over the Seeache and on the other bank upstream until you reach after 2 kilometers to a turnoff. Now left on a forest trail moderately steep uphill to the confluence of the coming of Kreuzstein hiking trail.
Now the path becomes steeper and between rocks it goes up into a flat saddle with 1036 meters the highest point of this stage. From the saddle you walk in a short time over to the two managed alpine huts on the Eisenaualm, the Buchberg hut and the Kienberger hut.
First back a short distance (400 meters), then right on a meadow trail down to Oberackeralm and continue to Unterackeralm and to a signpost. Now right down to the Ackersbach, which must be crossed. Since there is currently no bridge there, the flood has torn away the last bridge, the crossing of the creek bed can cause difficulties at high water level. But there is a bypass: From the above-mentioned signpost under the Unterackeralm on the left branching way (Valerieweg) down to the stream, then over a footbridge and along a wall (wire rope fences) again ascending until this path joins the Burggrabenklammweg. Now right up steep to the moss crossing, where you meet again on the other way (cira 15 minutes more time).
From the moss crossing (crossing of two forest roads at the northern end of the vast Moosalm), you hike on the left branching road - mostly downhill. After 5 kilometers you reach the shore of the Attersee, just west of the small village of Burgau. From the moss crossing to Steinbach you are on the third stage of the SalzkammergutBergeSeenTrails, but in the opposite direction.
First on a bike and walkway to the east along the Attersee shore, then a short distance on the road, at a sawmill and then the European camp over to Weißenbach am Attersee. On the lakeshore continue to the Hotel Post and immediately after this right (road sign "Steinbach", 2 hours) up to Nikoloweg. Left it goes flat, with steep protective forest slopes must be crossed. This position is partially secured. In the course of this path, there is a protection forest nature trail and a forest nature trail. After a long hike through the forest, you cross the Brenner Giant Trail, which leads up to the Brennerin, then continue on a flat path until the track joins a forest road. Now it goes downhill and by the Ernst Bitterlich road the center of Steinbach am Attersee is reached.Notes on public transport:- Water taxi Attersee (wasserskischule-attersee.at/wassertaxi-rundfahrten)

Now through forest short up to a signpost. Just a short distance further on you reach the maximum point of the Bramhosen, 960 meters (surveying sign).Back at the signpost, continue in the direction of Alexenau, first on a narrow path to the Seeleitenstüberl, then on a wide trail down to the Ghf. One of many beautiful ways to get to the Schafberg. At the latest starting from the Eisenau Alm it becomes alpine, appropriate experience and firm footwear therefore belong to the basic equipment. You start in Scharfling at the Heurigen "Holzingerbauer". From there it goes into the forest. It continues through the forest until you reach the Eisenauer Alm. This route is also well-walked with children and a unique experience. On the Eisenau it goes right away over alpine meadows back into the forest. It follows a steep climb to the Suissensee. Once at the top it goes to the right away always under the Schafberggipfel along. The last piece is the so-called Himmelspforte - here it gets a bit tricky. The steep and rocky path makes high demands on the hiker and should only be done in dry weather. The Schafberg is waiting for you with a great view.

This charming alpine hike leads you to the 1572 meter high Hochlecken in the middle of the Höllengebirge. You start this easy mountain tour at Gasthof Kienklause near Steinbach am Attersee. From there you hike on a forest road along the Zwieselbach in the south. In the next left turn you cut the way to the right. A little later you meet again on the forest road, which now leads you right below the Scheringstein. There it joins the path with the marking no. 823 m, which leads you at the foot of the Eagle Point and the Gugelzipf in numerous bends to the Hochleckenhaus. Here you can strengthen yourself at an altitude of 1574 meters and recover from the efforts of the ascension. The house owes its name to the local mountain of Vöcklabruck, the Hochleckenkogel, popularly called "Hochlecken".After a well-deserved break, you orient yourself towards the northeast and descend a little later through a scree slope. At least here, surefootedness is required. After this steep passage, you will finally walk past the Aurachsprung and reach the Taferlklause a short time later.
