Rivers meandering for miles across the country, canals that cut across their paths, and wide moorlands with a mystical flair that are spanned by countless bridges. Whether made of wood, stone or steel, no two bridges are alike in this region — and every crossing is unique. And you can experience it all on the Brückenradweg (the bridge cycling path) as you cycle between Bremen and Osnabrück.
Separating these two cities is 180 miles (290 kilometers) of a mostly flat cycling track. The route is named after the many bridges that make the long-distance cycle path so characteristic. On the other hand, the name also symbolizes the connecting characteristic of this cycle path, which straddles Bremen and Osnabrück like a bridge.
We have divided the circuit into seven stages for you. You'll start in Bremen and cycle along the eastern part of the route to Osnabrück. On the west side, you'll return to Bremen. Of course, you can also only ride part of the cycle path or start in Osnabrück.
No matter what you decide, both cities are home to a large a train station that allows you to arrive comfortably by train. Due to the well-connected area, you can also catch the train to points along the ride. As far as accommodation is concerned, you can choose between hotels, guesthouses, holiday apartments and camping sites.
The bike tour starts at the beautiful main station in Bremen, so that you can easily arrive by train. From here the first leg of the Brückenradweg takes you to Twistringen, about 47 kilometers away.On the way out of the city of Bremen you come through the recreational area "park left of the Weser". Here you will get a foretaste of the beautiful landscape and nature that awaits you on the entire Brückenradweg.Then it goes on a flat stretch further south. From Kätingen, a scenic area, where there are also old wooden windmills, it goes slightly uphill to the stage destination Twistringen.In the village there are various hotels, pensions and apartments where you can spend the night. Twistringen also has a train station if you want to continue by train or back home.
Today's stage takes you on flat 51 kilometers from Twistringen in Lembruch on the Dümmer lake. On the way there are a number of bridges that take you in different places on the Hunte and the Lohne.But not only bridges waiting for you on the way, but also nice rest stops, like a beer garden directly at the Lohne with a cozy terrace where you can sit outside and enjoy nature and an old castle in Diepholz.The stage destination of this day tour is Lembruch, a small holiday resort on Dümmer See. From here you can explore the lake and even cycle around it. The round of the lake is about 22 kilometers long. There are plenty of places to stay in Lembruch, including a campsite. Otherwise, you can also switch to the nearby place Hüde, which is also located on the lake.If you want to leave by train, you can either end the stage in Diepholz, where there is a train station, or take the bike from Lembruch to Lemförde, about eight kilometers away.

Today it goes from Lembruch to Osnabrück. At 51 kilometers you cycle from the countryside into the city. At the beginning you can enjoy the flat stretch and at the end you can look forward to a crisp climb that ends with a rapid descent.First, the trail takes you along the picturesque Dümmer lake. Here you can look out over the water from one of the observation towers and watch birds or admire modern art in the sculpture garden.Continue on one or the other bridge, including the particularly beautiful Roman bridge at Hunteburg. From here begins a slight slope, which attracts about 10 kilometers from Osnabrück again properly. Once at height you can let it roll to Osnabrück.Here in the waypoint, you have made half of the entire route and you have all the benefits of a big city to celebrate. In addition to innumerable stops and overnight stays, there is also a train station in Osnabrück with connections to the local and long-distance traffic, if you want to continue by train.
On a shorter stage, it is 40 kilometers from Osnabrück to Damme today. At the beginning of the track, there are some gradients waiting for you, until you reach the flat Campemoor, which almost reaches to Damme.At the beginning of the tour, you cycle through the urban backdrop of Osnabrück, past the harbor and out of the city, where a hilly section of the route awaits you. After you have mastered this, it goes into the bog, where as a highlight, for example, the castle Alt Barenaue waiting for you.A few kilometers further on, at the gates of Damm, you pass the airfield. Here is a stopover, because you can not only stop there, but also watch planes and parachutists.In the stage destination Damme you have different accommodation options available. If you would like to change trains, you can cycle to Steinfeld, which is nine kilometers away, to the train station.
36 kilometers are waiting for you today, because we continue northwards from Damme to Lohne. So that the largely flat route is not too easy, waiting pretty much halfway a small but fine slope with a great downhill on you.Before you continue on your way north today, you will first take a little dangling east to get to know the west side of Lake Dümmer. At the Olgahafen you can look at beautiful sailing boats and strengthen yourself in the beach house with a fish sandwich.Afterwards you will cycle north and on your way to Lohne you will pass various historical sights such as the Dicken Stein in Steinfeld, the monastery of St. Bonaventura in Mühlen and the castle Hopen just before Lohne.The Lohne daily destination offers accommodation for accommodation and a train station if you wish to continue by train.
Today, the shortest stage of the bridge cycle path is on. About 29 kilometers lead you on a flat stretch from Lohne to Goldenstedt. This short tour is a great opportunity to gather your strength for the final stage and end the day with the many things to do in the Goldenstedt stage.It starts from Lohne from the north. Immediately after you leave the city, you drive back through the moor, you always cycle to the northeast and past Vechta. Before you reach the destination of the day, Goldenstedt, make a little trip to the picturesque fishponds at Varenesch.In the stage destination Goldenstedt attracts the beautiful Hartensbergsee with its sandy beach. At the lake there is a campsite where you can spend the night. Otherwise, you will also find numerous alternative accommodation in the village. A bit outside of Goldenstedt is the train station if you want to change to the train.
The last leg of the Brückenradweg takes you back to Bremen. Just under 56 kilometers are waiting for you today to drive from Goldenstedt to Bremen.From Goldenstedt goes through the beautiful rural area past Harpstedt. North of the small town you cross the moor on an impressive wooden bridge, which brings you safely over the soft moorland and the Delme.On the rest of the tour back to Bremen you will also pass near the airport, where you have a beautiful view of the grounds and in the distance the planes can take off and land.Back in Bremen you are welcome to complete the tour at the Osterdeich. On the beautiful meadows on the Weser, the day can be concluded very well.Finally, to get back home from Bremen, you can, as on the way, easily take the train from the main station.
