The Black Forest has always been a place shrouded in myth and legend. The deep, dense, expanse of the forest has inspired many a tale over millennia, with the forest’s mysteries feeding the fantasies of all who visit. Christened Silva Nigra (the Black Forest) by the Romans who wandered these woods long before us, the region is perhaps more notorious today for its beautiful hiking landscapes than the terrors that may have once laid in wait.
From the Alexanderschanze in the middle of the Black Forest, right the way across to the southern Kandern, this 7-day high-altitude hike winds you through the most beautiful areas of the Forest. Throughout the duration of the trek, you’ll wander over wind-kissed peaks, through rustic forest, across wild, high moors and alongside pristine lakes. And always with a smile on your face as the varied landscape reveals its beautiful secrets.
All you need for this 7-day hike is a pair of comfy, worn-in hiking boots, enough food for the day and a reservation at one of the numerous hotels en route, especially during the busy season.
