High up, on idyllic grass paths and forest trails on the Preußensteig, which offers fantastic views along the former Prussian-Bavarian border. The "Sickinger Höhenweg" offers hiking enjoyment in an idyllic landscape and attracts with great views of the Saarland and Alsace. For about 23 kilometers, the trail meanders through forests, meadows and past moss-covered rocks.The Sickinger Höhe region owes its name to the last German knight, Franz von Sickingen, who once ruled here. Wonderful is the constant change of different landscapes, fascinating the wide views over the countryside. Knightly courage is of course not needed for the migration of the mountain trail, but a good deal of fitness if it is to be mastered in one day.

Exposed lookouts make the Busenberger Holzschuhpfad a special experience. Already after the first ascent from Hexenplätzel to Löffelsberg you get a foretaste of the following highlights. Over the crest of the rock massif Puhlstein leads the adventurous path through a wet meadow area in which stands the legendary chapel of St. Gertraud. After a steeper ascent to the Schlusselfels, with its great view of Burg Berwartstein, a refreshment in the managed Drachenfelshütte offers itself.The subsequent visit to the mysterious ruins Drachenfels is one of the highlights of this hike. This is followed by idyllic passages through a meadow valley, up to the Sprinzelsfelsen and around the Eichelberg around to the last vantage point. From there, the trail leads over the bird trail back to Hexenplätzel.
In the Middle Ages, the Palatinate was the center of European history. An important dynasty were the Leininger counts. Between the testimonies of their rule runs the Leininger Burgenweg, which connects the ancestral castle of the Leininger counts, the castle Altleiningen with the castles Neuleiningen and Battenberg. The beautiful Wasgau Lakes Tour starts at the biosphere house in Fischbach. In the middle of a picturesque nature reserve lies the first stage destination, the Pfälzerwoog. Great views await on the rocky outcrop Lindelskopf, on which once stood a castle complex from the early Middle Ages.In the Dahn Rockland around the communities Fischbach and Ludwigswinkel there are water in amazing diversity. The contrast between distinctive peaks and wide valleys with beautiful wetlands, clear springs, streams and ponds is unique in this region. The premium hiking trail "Wasgau-Seen-Tour", certified by the German hiking institute, opens up this landscape with all its quiet charms and spectacular locations of about 20 kilometers in length, which can be divided into two sections. This trail takes its name from the mountain and forest god Vosegus and connects the bizarre sandstone rocks Rödelstein, Haselstein, Löffelsberg and Buhlstein. On the way lies the castle ruin Lindelbrunn, which was built as Reichsburg in defense of the Trifels in the 12th century.To start the tour you are spoiled for choice. You can start in Vorderweidenthal or Oberschlettenbach. In addition, you can use the hiking car park of the Palatinate Forest Nature Park at the castle ruin Lindelbrunn. Fish ponds are passed as well as the sources in the Deckental and Schlettenbacher Tal. The Roßbrunnen offers a short break before the ascent to the natural monument Felsmassiv Hohle Felsen begins. On the Dahner Rundwanderwegs the variety of the Felsenland reveals itself. Over the rock massif Hochstein leads the way to the largest castle complex in the Palatinate, the castle massif Alt-Dahn-Grafendahn-Tanstein.Here you should schedule time for an extensive visit. Comfortable forest paths lead over the Roman rock, with its great 360 ° view, on to the famous rock massif Jungfernsprung above the town of Dahn. On legendary tracks we explore two unique landscape forms on this predicate hiking trail. The legendary Sickinger Höhe, whose eponymous knight Franz von Sickingen lived on the castle Nanstein near Landstuhl until 1523 and which was mainly influenced by the mill culture, we climb after the first few kilometers. From above we look down on the mystical Westrich Moorniederung. Natural meadow valleys, quiet forest areas, rolling fields, bizarre rock formations, wild gorges and sunny views are waiting for us.The legendary forest path can be made from several starting points. The Leininger Klosterweg leads from the Naturfreundehaus Rahnenhof via the Frauental to the old Sauhäuschen. From there, the path leads up to Kieskautberg and on to Keystone. After crossing the Leuchtenberg the path reaches the monastery village Höningen with rest stops. Continuing in the direction of Altleiningen, the Klosterweg runs parallel to a lovingly designed forest trail into Eckbachtal. There, the forest is left to get over the organic farm Neuhof and along the Eckbach back to Hertlingshausen and the Naturfreundehaus.
