The first day of the Ortler circumnavigation takes us from Sakt Gertraud over Rabbijoch. It is best to travel via Meran and then take the bus directly from the main train station to Sankt Gertraud. It has a heart for mountain bikers, the buses have a bike rack at the rear. Because the journey takes some time, the first stage is a bit shorter. We're getting warm today!

The Passo Cercen is rather unknown - and pleases mountain bikers with a beautiful, flowing descent. At the top of the pass we have a wonderful view. Here we can get a first-hand impression of where the journey will take us in the next few days.

On the third day, the distance traveled is comparatively short. Nevertheless, it is exhausting: without extensive pushing or carrying no one comes up to the Montozzo-Scharte. On the way, the picturesque Lago di Pian Palù invites you to relax. In the evening you can visit the Rifugio Bozzi or the fortifications of the First World War.

For lack of alternative today's on asphalt up to the Gaviapass. However, the road is very narrow and there is usually little traffic. The descent leads on a beautiful trail through a unique, wild mountain landscape. Drivers particularly fit drivers take the alternative switchback down to Santa Caterina. On this S3-Trail you should be able to move your rear wheel safely even in demanding situations. Otherwise it means pushing!

The fifth day is the queen stage of the Ortler Circumnavigation: today we have 2600 vertical meters in front of us - through thin mountain air. The Zebru Pass is exhausting, challenging and 3000 meters high. In addition to driving technique, vertigo is required. Attention: At the top you have to push a bit downhill. Otherwise there is a danger of falling! Those who have conditionally weaker riders in the group can recommend them in Bormio one of the numerous shuttle services for the trip to Umbrailpass.

Many mountain bikers consider the Goldseetrail the most beautiful trails in the Alps. He is located high, technically attractive and does not seem to want to end. The exposed location high above the valley offers an overwhelming view of the Ortler massif. You should not be afraid of heights here and have a safe driving technique. Important: The Goldseetrail is closed to mountain bikers from 10 am to 4 pm during the day. We have to get up early in the morning and get on the bike!

The best comes at the very end: The Madritschjoch with 3123m is the highest point of the Ortler Circuit. This high alpine route is only suitable for safe drivers with good bike control. On the descent through Martelltal we let the tour end relaxed. From Schlanders you can take the train home - or to Meran if you leave your car there. It would also be possible to add another day and drive over the Tarscher Pass to Sankt Gertraud. However, the Tarscher Pass is less appealing than the rest of the tour - and has more shift share than you would expect.
