Wonderful winter – hut tours in the Fichtel Mountains

Hiking Collection by

In winter, when the trees are tormented by snow and ice and the freezing fog covers the landscape, a well-known landscape might be transformed into an undiscovered fairytale world. Real winter landscapes do not only exist in the Alps and in distant childhood memories. In a small low mountain range, in the northeastern part of Bavaria, the perfect winter landscape can be found in more moderate heights: Servus Fichtelgebirge!

The only thing here, that bursts through the silence of nature is the scrunchy sound of your boots stomping through the snow. With its bizarre rock formations and wide valleys, the Fichtel Mountains make it easy for you to leave the rest of the world behind. Our hut tours are perfect for a two-day-escape into the mountains. If you have enough time, you can also choose the variation for a long weekend. Doesn’t matter if you hike two or three days, if it’s frozen ground or deep snow. Hiking through the Fichtel Mountains is the perfect winter adventure, wether you go with hiking boots or on snow shoes.

The second and thus already the last day of this circular walk has begun. After a hearty breakfast, it can already start full of anticipation. Crystal clear spring water, almost artificial rock formations and imposing viewing platforms await you. Along unspoiled nature, without public roads, you will travel over Drei-Brüder Felsen and the Rudolfstein to the White Main hiking trail. If there is still time left before the trip home in the evening - and above all strength - the community of Bischofsgrün offers enough possibilities. You can decide among other things between a ride on the all-year toboggan run, the themed hiking trails or a historical village tour.

The first day of this three-day tour is leisurely and leaves you plenty of time to travel. You can already represent your feet in the spa town of Bischofsgrün, or you can head straight for the Ochsenkopf, which at 1024 m is the second highest peak in the Fichtelgebirge. Through dense forest you walk along the White Main through untouched nature. The first overnight accommodation is the Seehaus, which also offers delicious regional food and cold dishes.

Hike in the Fichtelgebirge - 2nd day: From Seehaus we go to Kösseine today. Located between Schneeberg and Ochsenkopf, the mountain massif is one of the most visited in the Hohes Fichtelgebirge nature area. Through consistently marked paths you reach the plate and high mattress. Then it goes down a few meters, where you hopefully take enough momentum for the climb to the Kösseine. The Kösseinehaus, which was opened in 1903, offers you a quaint overnight accommodation. Tip: Camera for the sunsets at 939 m above sea level.

Day 3 has begun. Today is again a very nice stage in front of you. After the approximately 23 km of the last two days, it is now a bit shorter and almost exclusively downstream. With just under 3 hours walking time you also have enough time for the trip home; or just to enjoy nature. After a hearty breakfast, you will travel over small and large Haberstein to Wendener Stein. Although the popular vantage point is already overgrown, you can still catch the deserved vision, depending on the season. The hiking destination can be reached with the county seat Marktredwitz. From there you also have a good connection to take the train or bus home.
