Oberstdorf — hiking over 3 altitude levels

Hiking Collection by Oberstdorf

The variety of the Allgäu Alps is quiet popular. There are only a view places where you can see huge rocky mountains like the Trettach next to green hills like the Höfats. On well maintained mountain paths, scenic hiking trails, via ferratas and seven mountain huts, you can enjoy this unique landscape to it's fullest. From the beginning of July spring is back in the mountains and the Alpine Roses colour the landscape in deep magenta. Then it's the perfect time to hike and climb one of the 400 peaks around Oberstdorf!

On this magnificent, challenging hike, you will take exciting trails through the Allgäu mountains. Breathtaking views on the Laufbacher Eck and cozy alpine huts in the picturesque Oytal make this hike a first-class tour. At the beginning you drive comfortably up to the top station with the Nebelhornbahn. A short path leads you to the pointer saddle, where you can enjoy a great view of the Seealpsee. Over flower-rich steep slopes, the mountain trail winds to the Schochensattel.Afterwards it becomes steeper and it is on rope-insured passages through rugged, partially exposed terrain. After passing the Laufbacher Eck, the long descent to the Käseralpe in the Oytal begins. Here are worth good touring poles and regular break. After your descent, you have earned a long break in the Käseralm in every case. Now it goes on more comfortable trails through the picturesque Oytal on Stuibenfall and other pastures. You follow the Oybach down the valley until you finally reach Oberstdorf again.

From the valley station of the Nebelhornbahn, you will hike past the ski jumps and into the Faltenbachtobel. Through the wildly romantic brook gorge it goes uphill to the cable car middle station "Seealpe".Now you climb over wide, lush alpine meadows and through sparse woodland towards the summit. The path becomes steeper and then meanders in countless hairpin bends over the Südwestgrat to the summit cross. Here you will be for the long climb with a breathtaking view of the upper Illertal and the Allgäu mountains. Passing the lower Gaisalpsee and the cozy Gaisalpe, the route leads you down the Nordgrat down to the valley. The last section runs with a wonderful view over the Wallraffweg.

On this hike you will tour the imposing Höfats on the challenging track of almost 23 kilometers. The proverbial highlight is the overhanging of the saddle: from the highest point of the tour you have a fantastic view of the Allgäu mountains. The tour takes you first on comfortable hiking trails from Oberstdorf into the Trettachtal. Through the Hölltobel you climb up to the mountain village Gerstruben and follow the paths to the Dietersbachalpe - a perfect place for a first rest. Now it is steep and mountainous. On narrow trails, it goes through alpine terrain up to the elk saddle. After you have crossed the pass, the mountain trail leads you in some hairpin bends down into the picturesque Oytal. Here, the path widens again and leads you past several cozy mountain huts, which invite you to a well deserved rest. At the Oytalhaus, the last hut in the valley, you can also rent a mountain scooter and roll down the last few kilometers on the scooter to Oberstdorf.

The Rappenseehütte on the main ridge of the Allgäu Alps is the perfect starting point for exciting mountain tours. For this you have to climb but first to the hut - on this route we present you the ascent of the donkey trail. To do this you take the bus to Alpe Eschbach and start your hike here. First, you walk on the narrow, lonely asphalt road through the beautiful valley. The path only rises gently and this section is pure hiking pleasure. After about two hours you will reach the Black Hut. Here you should strengthen yourself again and give yourself a break - because now it is steep and alpine. On narrow serpentine paths, the donkey trail leads you up to the Musskopf saddle. Enjoy the wonderful view in peace and quiet, because you are almost at your destination. The path leads you past the picturesque Rappensee and finally you are standing in front of the Rappenseehütte.

The somewhat more demanding circular hike in the footsteps of Max Wallraf to Cologne guarantees a varied holiday experience at the foot of the Rubihorn. At the beginning of the multifaceted hike, it goes up to the Breitenberg via the Schattenberg Stadium. Then two descent variants are available. The Tobelweg into the valley requires stable mountain shoes and sure-footedness, but offers a beautiful nature experience in the deep gorge of the wild Gaisalpbach. (The well-developed driveway, on the other hand, offers a much more comfortable and less demanding variant.)Arrived in the valley, it is now effortless to walk a bit along the Gaisalpbach until the hiking trail leads on sunny and promising meadow paths via Rubi back to Oberstdorf.
