So you're also one of those outdoor enthusiasts who just can't get enough of nature? We, as like-minded friends, can understand you only too well! This feeling unfolds especially now, when the distance of crystal clear views seems infinite, when landscapes are frosty-grey and when you have nature just for yourself. All in all, autumn days are ideal to decamp to the mountains. Unfortunately, there is a small thing that can thwart your plans. When knocking on a mountain lodge's door, you quickly catch a sight of a sign with "winter break" written on it. No worries! There are some indefatigable hosts, who still satisfy your craving for a well deserved Kaiserschmarren in the cold season. To find them you just have to check out our overview of the best mountain huts in Austria and South Tyrol, who open their doors also in the cold season.
"The way is the goal", I just never understood this saying as a student and especially before exams. On the ascent to Flecknerhütte, my view of this wisdom has fundamentally changed. Rise was with us from the middle station of the ascent systems of Ratschings. Along the entire hike you can enjoy a great view of the Passeier Valley and the sprawling mountains that surround it. The hut itself convinced me. Homemade delicacies and pies. Nice service and clean rooms. I will certainly repeat the way more often ...
Opening Hours: All year except November
What a top alp! Sometimes during my stay I felt like I was in a hotel. Sauna with wood-burning stove and window with panoramic view, luxurious double rooms, 6-course menu for special occasions, the finest coffee beans for breakfast ... This alpine hut is really of the highest standard and is still wonderfully down-to-earth and personable. It is perfectly located, especially as a starting point for hikes. Chapeau, chapeau!

At 1733m above sea level is the Carl von Stahl House. Here I stayed in June with 2 friends. Despite strong operation, both the food was very good and the staff friendly. In the tour choice the host was a great help, and enriched us with the knowledge of a locals. Great advantage is the opening times, as here also in winter, admission is granted. The only drawback are the shower prices, for ten minutes with € 2.50 to book. I would definitely come back anyway.
Opening hours: open all year!
The Zellerhütte is located at 1,575 meters above sea level. Even the path from the Schafferteiche meanders through a beautiful mixed forest, which shows its most beautiful side, especially in autumn. When you arrive, you have a wonderful view of the surrounding area, which you can enjoy on one of the two sun terraces. During our visit, a folk singing group was just visiting, which delivered Austrian hut flair par excellence. It is recommended to combine the overnight stay in a hut with an ascent of the Warscheneck (2,388 meters). You can find more information here: zellerhuette.at
It is not for nothing that the Vorderkaiserfeldenhütte is praised as the hut with the best views. You have the free choice between a magnificent distant view of the Wilder Kaiser, the Inntal or from the Zillertal Alps to the Wendelstein.
But as a hungry hiker you are not satisfied with the view alone. I could savor all kinds of Tyrolean specialties here - the cuisine here is absolutely fantastic. Only the price is a bit higher compared to other huts in this region. Overall, however, highly recommended.
But above all the fantastic sunset over the Inn Valley is worth a visit. The hut is also a base on the four-day imperial tour. An absolute recommendation. Hiking through the Kaisertal is a uniquely beautiful experience.

Sensational service ... sensational delicious munch ... Panorama: WOW !!!
The location is great ... the Schlern in the back, the view towards Merano and Bolzano ... super nice ... and then the guests, their service and the food ... very relaxing, if everything fits and you just enjoy.
from Easter to the end of January
Simple but very pleasant cabin. We were in bright sunshine to visit and was served by a host who at least as beamed. At a Kreuzberg hike, you can not go wrong with the schnitzel and homemade pies. Seen by many as another highlight, is the old rhododendron tree. According to stories, he is one of the oldest and largest in Europe and is already at least 105 years old.
Daily and all year round except Thursdays.

In the summer of 2014, the Scheimhütte - also Scheimhitt'n - called, newly built. Although I did not know the hut in front of it, I am enthusiastic about the new one. In two dining rooms, the very nice innkeepers feed the hungry hikers with Austrian specialties. We were not over night. But if you are on the high wall for a longer time, you can also descend here. Highly recommended!
Year round from Wednesday to Sunday
