Longing for the mountains? We can understand you just too well. Although autumn is labeled as the most beautiful time for hiking, many mountain lodges have already shut their doors. When knocking on a mountain lodge's door, you might see a sign with "winter break" written on it. No worries! There are some indefatigable hosts, who still satisfy your craving for a well deserved Kaspressknödel or hot chocolate in the cold season. To find them, simply check out our eight mountain huts in Southern Germany, who open their doors just for you; also in the cold season. So lace your shoes and enjoy this beautiful autumn - in the mountains.

The Priener Hütte, which is open all year round, is one of the most famous huts in Chiegmau. Whether hiking in summer or skiing or snowshoeing in winter, you can enjoy home-style regional cuisine here. Especially recommended is the home-baked bread from the wood-fired oven. This also strengthens for the Geigelstein, which is located above at 1,808 meters. If you decide to stay the night, I can only recommend getting up early to enjoy the overwhelming sunrise with the panorama of the Zahmer and Wilder Kaiser. Absolute hut tip in the Chiemgau!

The Carl von Stahl House is located at 1,733 meters above sea level. I stayed here with two friends in June. Despite being busy, the food was very good and the staff friendly. The host was a great help when choosing a tour and enriched us with the knowledge of a local.
The opening hours are a big advantage, as admission is also granted in winter. The only drawback are the shower prices, which cost €2.50 for ten minutes. But I will definitely come back anyway.

The Schönfeldhütte is a managed hut of the Munich Alpine Club. Due to its location and easy accessibility, it is ideal for family stays. I was here with a friend from South America who couldn't get enough of the homemade hut bread. The innkeeper recommended the Kaiserschmarren to me, which I can definitely pass on to you at this point! Friendly service and great cottage.

Here one can no longer speak of a hut. The Rotwandhaus was completely renovated a few years ago, which definitely improved the stay. On the huge terrace, the view sweeps from the Zugspitze to the Großglockner. The somewhat higher prices show that the conversion probably also cost a lot. Nevertheless, the food and the service are of high quality, which again justifies the price. Peak times should be avoided if possible, as crowds of hungry tourists often want to be fed.

In July 2016, the Lenggrieser Hütte got a new tenant. Very much to the goodwill of the guests. On a cold autumn day we arrived a little later than expected. The landlady said that the kitchen is already closed. The more we radiate, as yet 10 minutes later a very delicious lentil soup was served. In good weather, the sun terrace offers to enjoy the magnificent view of the Karwendel 1338m. Another plus is the year-round opening hours. Very pleasant stay!
Opening hours: Open all year - closed on Tuesdays.

The Spitzsteinhaus is located directly on the Austrian-German border. This makes it very easy to reach both from the German side (from Sachrang or Innerwald) and from the Austrian side (from Erl). All year round you will be looked after by friendly innkeepers and you can also stay overnight. On the seasonal menu you will find dishes that include regional products and tasty Tyrolean specialties and are changed regularly. I've only been here twice, but very satisfied each time!
