Nestled in the Dolomites, in north-eastern Trentino, lies a true paradise of natural beauty: the Val di Fassa (Fassa Valley). A popular destination for skiers and snowboarders in winter, the Val di Fassa becomes an ideal destination for hikers in summer thanks to a dense network of trails.

In this Collection, you’ll find a selection of five hikes, all characterised by breathtaking views. These routes reveal exactly why the Dolomites are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Discover the Lusia Lakes and take a journey back in time by visiting the centuries-old Refugio La Rezila. Be amazed by the lunar landscape of the Gartl basin, overlooked by the majestic Vajolet towers. How about a high-mountain traverse on the Buffaure ridge with spectacular views of the Pordoi, the Sasso Piatto and the Marmolada? On the Friedrich-August-Weg you hike over the grassy slopes of the Langkofel and Plattkofel. Or, follow the path that was once used for flour trading: the Viel dal Pan, one of the most beautiful trails in the Dolomites.

And don't forget to sample the delights of Ladin cuisine. Alpine pastures, mountain huts and shelters offer traditional dishes, including steaming polenta, dumplings, local cheeses, barley soups and cinnamon apple desserts.

All routes are above 2,000 metres (6,500 ft), so we recommend walking them in summer or autumn. On each route, you’ll pass at least one refuge. Take water and some snacks like dried fruit or energy bars for a picnic. Also, pack warm clothing for the high mountain passages and remember to check the weather forecast before setting off. You may also want to take a pair of trekking poles for support.

The trails of the Fassa Valley are waiting for you!
