Historic castles, enchanting palaces and lively towns meet wide fields, babbling rivers and fragrant forests. The district of Aichach-Friedberg has plenty of variety and is great to discover by bike. The mark of the nobel Wittelsbach dynasty, which originated here, is still present in the historical buildings and the area’s nickname is Wittelsbacher Land. Lying to the east of Bavarian Swabia, this region is still connected to its old Bavarian roots.
We’ve selected 12 wonderful cycling Tours – from short to long and easy to challenging – so that you can explore the Wittelsbacher Land in depth. Simply choose a Tour and your favourite theme and off you go. You'll follow in the footsteps of the Austrian Empress Sisi and visit the foundation stones of the Wittelsbach dynasty. You cycle through the places where the Bavarian Hiasl (the Bavarian Robin Hood) operated and follow the old Altbaierischer Oxenweg trade route. You’ll encounter castles in the hilly forests and the river in the valley.
All Tours start or end in or near Aichach and Friedberg, which are both towns worth visiting and reachable by train. The Tours can also be combined or split to fit in with your own itinerary. There are plenty of places to eat and drink along the way: several beer gardens, some of them in historic buildings, will spoil you with regional specialities. Don't forget your swimsuit either, as countless lakes invite you to cool off.
