When thick fog hangs over the mountains of the Wasgau, the chestnuts drop their prickly fruit and the many huts fire up their chimneys again, then it’s autumn in the Palatinate Forest. Whether you're trudging through the lonely forest in a drizzle or you're lucky enough to marvel at the colourful vineyards of the Haardt on a clear day, you can be sure that autumn is the perfect season for hiking here.

These eight Tours show you the Palatinate Forest from its most magnificent side. They all lead you along winding forest paths through the undulating landscape, taking you to spectacular vantage points and heritage sites. The Palatinate Forest hides numerous mystical ruins, historic towers and cosy huts that have been feeding hungry hikers for generations.

Unique to this region are the red sandstone rock formations, which bear enchanted names such as ‘Devil's Table’ or ‘Dragon's Rock’. With their eroded shapes, cavities and curves, they inspire your imagination. Often, you can also climb the huge monolithic stones to enjoy superb views over the orange, yellow and red forest.

The Tours start at hikers' car parks or railway stations, and there are usually bus stops nearby. As these are all circular walks, you can also choose your own starting point. Slip into your hiking boots, put on your waterproof and enjoy nature in all its colourful splendour!
