West Germany not only has vibrant cities to offer but also wonderful, varied hiking areas. On our 15 loops, you’ll discover impressive views, glistening waters and quiet forests. You don’t always have to cover many kilometres and climbs to enjoy a hike. Gentle inclines and relaxed paths can take you to magical places with panoramic views – without too much effort or muscle aches.
In this Collection, we present three Tours in each of these five hiking regions: Eifel, Taunus, Westerwald, Rhön and Pfälzerwald. Discover bizarre rock formations near Gerolstein, hike to historical sites high above the Erft, stroll through hilly orchards near Langenhain, and gaze in awe at Bad Nauheim in the Taunus. Wild valleys, historic monasteries on the Wied, and traces of basalt mining await you in the Westerwald. In the Rhön, you'll visit magnificent vineyards on the Saale, mystical ruins, and easily-accessible peaks. In the Palatinate Forest, you’ll find small lakes, famous rocks near Hinterweidenthal, and cosy huts.
These gentle Tours are suitable for everyone thanks to the moderate amount of climbing and short distances. The routes mostly start from hikers' car parks, but some can also be reached by public transport.
