Get your waterproof shoes out and set off on the Clogs Trails in the Netherlands with your whole family. Enjoying the outdoors on foot is a great way to spend time with your kids.
In this Collection, you'll find 10 routes in Gelderland and Utrecht that are created for big and little hikers. The distances vary between 3 and 7 kilometres (1.9 and 4.3 mi), so there's something for every age group.
Some walks are specifically themed for kids and have an accompanying activity booklet (linked in the stage descriptions). The other hikes weren’t created for kids, but they have suitable distances and activities to be a memorable adventure.
The Clog Trails mostly follow unpaved roads that can be quite muddy, but this usually makes for even more fun! The surface does mean that they’re not suitable for pushchairs so bear that in mind when route planning. You'll also encounter a lot of water along the way, so pay extra attention to little ones who haven’t quite learned to swim yet. Check in advance if it’s possible to bring your dog as they aren’t permitted on all paths.
You’ll hike along water and through forest and farmland. The land is mostly privately owned so make sure you treat it respectfully so everyone can continue to enjoy it. When you return home, make sure you check yourself and your kids over for ticks.
All routes are loops and start close to a car park and bus stop so you can easily arrive by car and public transport.
So off you go exploring the Dutch countryside. I wish young and old alike lots of fun on these Clog Trails!
