The Westerwald, a low mountain range in Germany, is a fantastic place to explore on foot. As a hiker, you probably sometimes feel like going on a long trip, whilst at other times you’d prefer a shorter adventure. Sometimes you want to push yourself, and sometimes you just want to stretch your legs. You’ll share some adventures with your family, and other times you’ll go alone. In this Collection, we present 18 short hikes spread across the region that make for wonderful days out.
Nature, culture and culinary delights are the focus here. You'll stroll through historic villages and follow quietly gurgling waters through wild river landscapes. From picturesque vantage points, you can enjoy the view of the lush, green landscape from above and indulge in a meal at a traditional inn. You can embark on a leisurely walk one day and a longer route the next. It’s up to you how you plan your adventures here; they’re all well-marked and a pleasure to hike.
These routes are 2.5 to 8 kilometres (1.5 to 5 mi) long. Some are centred around a theme such as legends or fitness, while others just focus on the magnificent landscapes here. You’ll hike through ancient forests and vibrant plant life, often close to water.
You can reach some of the starting points for the Tours by public transport. We'll direct you from a car park so you don't have to worry about finding a place to park. We hope you enjoy these short hikes through the Westerwald.
