Occitania is one of the most beautiful holiday regions in France. Located in the southwest of the country, it stretches from the Pyrenees along the Mediterranean coast and inland. It has incredible cultural and historical heritage in every corner. Surrounded by exceptional natural areas, its old cities and charming villages are beautiful and vibrant. Occitania is home to the national parks of the Pyrenees and the Cevennes, as well as several nature parks, including the impressive cliffs of the Causses du Quercy.

The region is incredibly rich in hiking trails. These include well-known routes such as the Camino de Santiago and the GR 10, the crossing of the Pyrenees. In this Collection, we present ten of these, which showcase the wonderful inland region and the coast of Occitania. They are ordered by length and lead through a fantastic variety of landscapes, ranging from high mountains to green plateaus and the Mediterranean coast.

All hiking trails in this Collection are easily accessible thanks to the Occitanie Rail Tour. This includes 19 train routes and 150 train stations, which are connected to regional bus networks. And the best part is it's unbeatably affordable: The train ticket, available since 15th April 2023, costs €10 per day for two to six consecutive days. With that, you can travel unlimitedly on all liO trains in the region. All routes in this Collection start and end near Occitanie Rail Tour train stations.

Most paths are accessible throughout the year, but it’s advisable to avoid the higher-altitude routes in winter. Good hiking shoes are essential for tackling the rocky and steep sections in the mountains. Remember to bring enough food and water – in summer, we recommend a minimum of two litres of water per person.

When planning your journey through Occitania, the interactive map with all train stations will assist you: visit-occitanie.com/en. You can get the train ticket here: ter.sncf.com/occitanie/decouvrir/rail-tour.
