In water-rich Austria, who really needs the sea? You don't have to go far to spend a wonderful holiday by the water. Throughout the country, you’ll find wonderful bathing lakes, rushing rivers, murmuring brooks and ice-cold mountain lakes. As a place to take a break and cool off, these bodies of water are the perfect destinations for a summer hike.

That's exactly why we present six Tours in Austria's hiking villages in this Collection. These routes promise welcome refreshment all over Austria. Take a relaxed hike around the blue Längsee lake in Carinthia or climb high up to the beautiful Berglisee lake in Tyrol. In the same province, an impressive mountain Tour leads you across colourful alpine pastures to Blaue Lacke, a wonderfully secluded mountain lake. Two very different lakes await you on the hike between Fuschl am See and Faistenau in Salzburger Land. The circular Seehornsee lake lies hidden below the 2,321-metre (7,600 ft) peak of the same name – the perfect place to cool off during the ascent. In the very south-east of Austria, you’ll hike through the Mur meadows near Bad Radkersburg and jump into the clear Liebmannsee lake.

All Tours start at bus stops or car parks. You can find more information in the Tour descriptions. Don’t forget to take enough drinking water with you in summer, despite the cooling waters along the way. No matter whether you prefer high-altitude mountain Tours or relaxed hikes through the plains, you’ll find crystal-clear lakes, ponds and rivers almost everywhere in Austria. Why would you want to go to the sea?
