Looking for wooded areas where you and your dog can run safely? Gelderland has so much to offer! These six Tours lead you and your four-legged friend through beautiful, diverse places, mostly within known dog walking areas.

Running with your dog can be a great way to stay active together and enjoy nature. If you choose to run in an area where dogs are allowed off-leash, make sure you follow the correct etiquette to make the experience as enjoyable as possible for everyone.

Good preparation is important. For example, it’s vital to bring enough water for both yourself and your dog. Make sure your dog is leashed before entering the off-leash area and only let him or her off-leash once this is allowed. Of course, you need to be sure that your dog follows your commands. Make sure your dog does not damage the landscape and clean up any droppings. Stay on the paths to avoid disturbing wildlife.

It’s also important to be able to see your dog clearly while you are running. A bright dog harness is a good idea. It can also be used to carry a dog whistle or clicker to call your dog when needed.

Remember that not everyone loves dogs. Respect other people's space and make sure your faithful hound does not cause a nuisance. Keep him or her away from children and other dogs unless you are sure your dog is well-trained.

If you notice that your dog is overheating, stop running and give him or her time to cool down. Remember that dogs do not sweat as well as humans and they may become exhausted quickly. Therefore, make sure you take regular breaks to drink water and give your dog a chance to rest for a while.

If you keep these tips in mind, you and your dog can enjoy a safe and enjoyable running session. Have fun with your best friend on these sniffer trails!
