Your bike is getting lonely in the hallway? It's all clean and shiny because you haven’t raced down any trails lately? What a pity! Just one and a half hours south of Munich, you'll find a whole network of singletrails just waiting to be explored on your next micro-adventure: the Wetterstein and Karwendel mountains, a sheer mountain bike paradise at the foothills of the Alps. The idyllic town of Mittenwald lies right in the center and serves as an ideal home base for rides into both mountain ranges. Whether you’re up for a 2-day-ride and an overnighter in an alpine hut or looking for a relaxed get-away with your family, these tours guarantee you the perfect weekend.
A highlight in the Karwendl is the Karwendel round. Up to the Karwendel house, it goes first along the Isar to neighboring Scharnitz. From there, a wide dirt road leads through a quiet valley up to the 1780 m high Alpenvereinshütte. Then it goes on a narrower path down to Johannesbach. Tip & Note: At Johannisbach you can wonderful on the right side of the stream trudge. At high water level, the crossing of the stream (no bridge), however, is a small challenge dar. About Hinterriß and a stop in the Oswald hut (necessarily stop) it goes to Vorderriß. From there you can either drive on the toll road (less strenuous) or (more scenic) on the Isar floodplains back to Mittenwald.
From Mittenwald it goes leisurely over Krün in the direction of the Isar meadows and then moderately uphill towards Soiernweg. The panorama of the Karwendl massif accompanies you all the way up to the Fischbachalm. From there it goes down in a rapid descent towards the crane and back to the starting point.

One of the most beautiful tours in the Wetterstein Mountains is the mountain bike tour of the royal house on Schachen. A leisurely rolling over the Ferchensee and Schloss Elmau follows a sporty driveway to the Wettersteinalm. From there it goes in some steep little turns up to the royal house. The way back leads on another route back to Ferchensee and back to Mittenwald.
On the south side of the Wetterstein massif this MTB tour starts quite flowig. The first part of the ascent to the Wetterstein hut starts slowly. The last hundred meters have it in and demand technically and conditionally everything. But you will be rewarded with a sensational panorama on the Wetterstein hut and the subsequent descent.
